It does upscale DVD with different options. Full, Normal and Double Scale.

I would recommend a PS3 for Blu-ray as the interface is a lot faster than other players.

Also, I dont like the design, as a nice BluRay player would have looked much better. But then again, the PS3 offers a lot more.

Another consideration is who else use the player.

Simplicity of the standalone bluray player may be more appealing.

The PS3 is probably the best you're gonna find.  It's internal hardware is better than any other player on the market, and it recieves constant updates, making it future proof vs other players.  It was updated to BD-Java 2.0 despite coming out when 1.0 was the norm, and it recently was updated to support 3D.  

That should continue into the future.

As for upscaling. Star Wars looked great on my 32" 1080p hooked up via component to a ps3.

Which is why you need a good player that actually upscales well like the player i linked to. PS3 vs any Oppo players ends with Oppo winning.

any good 7.1 system. Boss, Sony, Phillips. Pretty much anything high-end that promises amazing sound as the Oppo player transcodes audio as well as any $3k player.
