I'm surprised at the extent of the KZ3 boost for a relatively low week 1. Was there something else that bumped PS3 in addition to KZ3? The LG dispute hadn't hit before 26 Feb, so there's no panic buying factor in EMEAA, that should hit in this weeks stats.

PS3 Bulletstorm numbers amply demonstrate the idiocy of releasing a new FPS IP against KZ3. What was EA thinking? I get this horrible feeling that there was something intentional in sending Bulletstorm out to die on PS3. Has there been a multiplat shooter that's failed so badly on PS3 yet opened reasonably well on 360? I can't believe BS would have done this badly on PS3 if it was released with a bit of daylight between it and a PS3 exclusive shooter that appeals to the same sort of demographic.

That's EA's ignorance/arrogance. They stated that they wanted to release something that would "fuck with killzone"...
hmm. Gears of War 3 Beta also helped greatly for 360

I think you can attribute both the arrogance and the comment to Epic, or Clifford B at least.

Suck it 360 148k in America was not enough, which means Killzone 3 had a major impact.

Hahaha yeah you got the 360 on that one!  Cause this week was for the Video Games Championship of The World and ps3 came out on top!  With an amazing never seen before opening week "major impact" by Killzone 3 of 500,000 sales (holy geez!) the ps3 MIGHT get it's FIRST exclusive that sells 6 million!  But probably not.

GT5??

he forgot that one. actually come to think of it, GT5 sold faster than any every 360 exclusive apart from halo. makes his post look stupid now.

anyway looks like bulletstorm was hampered by killzone 3. killzone 3 beat it easily on both platforms. if bulletstorm release later, it would have got more sa

GT5 is at 5.64 million so far according to this site, my post still looks genius since my original intention was showing how funny it is to tell a company to suck it because your fave company outsold it by around 26,000 units in one week when overall your still getting beat by 4 MILLION lifetime.

yeah and that 'lifetime' gap was 8 mil a bit while back too. ;) we will see how big the gap is when the consoles 'actually' hit the end of their lives

and chances are vgc are undertracking gt5..and the game will pass 6 mill very very soon (if it hasn't already) and will keep selling

so sorry bud, not so 'genius' imo, maybe next time?

Could be undertracked, but an arguement based on chances sounds like guessing to me, I just use the facts.  And yeah I'd bet GT5 will surpass 6 million soon.  I don't have to be genius all the time, I'm just glad that I'm right, according to the numbers.

this is a discussion that we had for many pages last week. According to the official shipment numbers from PD, it seems we have it undertracked, atleast by a bit here...time will tell by how much

ok launch for Killzone 3. I rather have it have a weak launch with strong legs rather than a strong launch with weak legs. Killzone 2 has shown good legs and i predict Killzone 3 will have it too =)

Also just to show why your arguement is not full proof, I could also say more people bought KZ3 because it comes with early access to the socom 4 beta. I know gears is more popular than socom, but I still think you are exagerating the effect of the Gears beta. Attributing significant increases in  sales of a game to a beta does not seem to significant unless it is Halo 3: ODST because at least that game actually was a Halo game.

just wondering, how well did crackdown 2 do sales wise in comparison to crakdown 1?

seeing as it had access to the halo 3 beta

and @ squilliam your reasoning is flawed

the game did 360k combined while killzone 3 did 500k, so the ps3 version of bulletstorm hurting becasue people brought it on 360 for gears beta (and how this constitutes to the "better platform" is beyond me) is a moot point because KZ3 out sold the game combined on both platforms.

now looking at the ratio

300k (360) to 63k (ps3) that's what 4 to 1? 5 to 1? name me just ONE recent shooter that posted sucha discrepency in sales hell find me 1 this entire gen.

FACT: Killzone 3 utterly destroyed Bulletstorm sales for the ps3, game would have done ALOT better if it had released further away from killzone.

Killzone 3 is irrelevant. 1.25% of PS3 owners bought it the same week as bulletstorm came out, that leaves 98.75% of them to potentially buy Bulletstorm.

Crackdown 2 sold ~ 1/2 of Crackdown 1.

Tease.

Perhaps, but the fact is, it would have sold better if it wasn't on the same weeek as KZ. Would it have sold MUCH better? That's up for debate. But some people who just bought KZ and will get Bulletstorm later won't have bought it, even though they want it, because a 'better' game came out in the same week.

So, delaying Bulletstorm may have been beneficial for long-term success
