That would be very unexpected turn of event.

Didn't the creators of Age of Empires get shut down by Microsoft some time ago.

If they do this, they should have a reputable developer to develop it. If not, it seems kind of risky to release a new one by an unproven dev, with a new control scheme, which, to be honest, has yet to prove its abilities. Then again, if it has keyboard control schemes and kinect support, alongside a multiplat release on the 360 and pc, it would still sale well based on the brand name and recognition. I could be overestimating the Age of Empires brand recognition though...

They got Robot Entertainment to do the initial development. They're mostly composed of ex-Ensemble employees so it's the same personnel (more or less). The gameplay is more or less the same too (on the PC at least).
And it's a free to play game.

Ensemble did yes, Ms owns the rights as they owned Ensemble. Everything Ensemble is Ms, Robot Entertainment who did the nitty gritty was part of Ensemble, then they are getting someone else to finish it off.
Age Online is a fact. That is not the argument it is whether it will be on Kinect or not.
When most casuals think of that game, (those that have) think of age of empires.
Well they already admited they could make Halo Wars 2 work with Kinect so I wouldn't be surprised to see that its true

@Naznatip
Why did you even bring cross platform play into this when no one mentioned it? The reason that console shooters became so popular was because devs found a way to make playing on a controller feel fun and natural. I can pick up a controller and jump into any fps and have no problem navigating and locking down targets. Kinect has the potential to do the same thing with RTS. No one cares if the K&m is ultra presise when people can just lay back on their couch and get an equal if not more enjoyable experience with a controller.

Are you for real?
Mark my words, it won't be NEARLY as good as with a mouse and keyboard.

click the link, i copied and pasted. People really need to start clicking links before they comment, it makes them look dumb
As long as it has an alternative to use standard controller, I am game. I can't justify dishing out for Kinect right now and as much as I love those sort of games, this really isn't worth it for me at the moment. I love Age of Empires, great series, but I don't think the original studio, Ensemble can work on it as they've been disbanded in 2009.
R.I.P Ensemble, both Halo Wars and Age of Empires were two of my favourite RTS games, only bested by Rome Total War and Civilization.
Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.
