Forums - Nintendo - RIP Vitality Sensor...

Ideas like these are never dead, when they're Nintendo's. They may be put on hold and into some dark and dusty obscure attic, but eventually they'll resurface in one way or another...

Wouldn't surprise me if they did kill it off. Nintendo has shifted lately back to their N64/Gamecube form, which is purely hardcore games and emphasis of hardware power rather than focusing on fresh types of games and appealing to a mass market.

Yeah, it's probably for a future console. It's too limited in it's current form, and by the time it releases, it wouldn't get much support anyway. I'm excited to see where tech like that can bring gaming in the future though.

what are you talking about limited? could you imagine the enhancements sex games would have if they could use the vitality sensor? Place it on a certain spot and it could detect climax. lol

It's definitely not dead.  They wouldn't put in all that work just to completely slash all that Research and Development.  Like others said it may be integrated into a bigger hardware package like the next console rather than just waste it on a few titles (unless they are big AAA titles).

All what research and development? They took a pretty common medical device and put a USB cable on it.

I  can understand putting it in the controller for the next console, since that way it can enchance gameplay experience without the loss of input methods. But the device they showed is perfect for relaxing since you don't need to grip the controller.

The idea really does seem to be postponed. Now Ubisoft has the stress market for themselves, 'tis innergy!

But on the software side I'm sure there was plenty of new testing going on with unique game mechanics being able to utilize something like that.

Also, the Wii balance board was not a new concept really.  It was two scales meshed together so as to replicate how Sumo Wrestlers weigh themselves.  But a big part of the R&D was towards making it ergonomical and financially economical specifically for the average gamer and gaming medium

No doubt they will be carefully considering the same factors for Wii Vitality Sensor.  It's things not being as mundane as they appear that makes "Iwata Asks" series so attractive.  I'm sure we'll have one for this device as well.
