If thats all next gen consoles can do I will stick with PS3/360. I just do not see anything that impressive here. When I saw the first locast picture in around 2004 I was blown away. The massive amount of coputing power showcased in Heavanly Sword made me rethink what games could look like. To this point I have yet to see any tech demo that makes me gazze out in to space and daydream of next gen gaming.

Crysis and Cysis 2 look very nice, but not nice enough to warrent upgraded consoles. nVidia's rocket tech demo is decent, but nothing that really adds to gameplay. This demo from Epic just looks like Gears 2 or 3 with better textures.

Personally, I hope that the next gen is still far off in the distance. I want the next step to be more than just a new paint job. I want the same leap that we have seen every gen so far. I want the differance between Medal of Honor: Frontline, to Killzone 2 big. I want killswitch to gears of war big. If the next gen starts anytime before about 2014 I don't see it beinging that impressive.

Looks like a plastic version of Heavy Rain, not impressed at all. Come back when you having drasticly different, then we will talk next gen.

wtf are you people seeing? That looks stunning. It kicks the shit out of console/PC games.

Add to that its prob not even playable on 99 percent of home pcs

i think he (Teo) is right there isn't a big difference here

to be honest i've seen better last year (i just don't remember the name of the tech demo) , but they shown a lot of better looking characters.

While I agree that the the facial models in HR are the best yet and even comparable to this tech demo, the fact is the body model still has a ways to go.  Especially if you look at the hands of any of the characters in HR (or any game for that matter).  Another thing that is going to improve next gen in the interactions between objects.  Just look at the cigarette in his mouth.  I just looks like it natrually belongs there.  But even in this gen, it looks weird when people smoke, kinda like the cigarette isn't really touching the character's lips.  Or when people hand objects/papers to other characters, the exchange still looks unatural.  Again, like they're really not holding the object.  Next gen this should change.  I also think next gen physics are going to blow us away.  PS4, I can't wait.

And good stuff Epic, keep it up.

great, looks very dark

I'm impressed, but little to no games are gunna bust their asses and invest so much to make games of that quality.

but that's the thing the beauty of most of the tech shown off in this demo won't actually need much more effort than modern games. Techniques like depth of feild and dynamic lighting, reflection and shadows can basically just be turned on, so they won't add any cost. Tessellation also adds tons of added detail and and making objects more dynamic with little effort once they are implemented in engine, especially as most games already utilize bump maps that with a little tweaking can be used for tessellation.

A game that looks like that demo won't cost much more than AAA games today to make for the most part.

In fact fully dynamic lighting and shadows could even lower costs as devs won't need to bake in the effects into textures etc and tesalistion can eleminate the need to create as many LOD levels for the models as the technique can dynamically add details to the models as you get closer etc and as shown by the rock transformation compleatly change the look of a model over time eleminating the need to create a seperate model for each step of the transformation.

This.  Also to those who say this isn't really that much of an improvement, really?  This is like looking at the PS3 in comparison to the PS2.  It's a big leap.  Much better effects, physics, polys, and textures.  I know a lot of new games have improved facial models, but the body models have suffered for those extra polygons needed to make the face look that good.  Next gen, that won't be the case.  Also, at least in terms of the PS4, with a faster Blu-ray drive and better RAM, we may elimate pop-up and short draw distances all together.  I can't wait for another Uncharted-like game to come out where you can see large portions of a lush island all at once.  or even something like Red Dead Redemption where you can desert as far as the eye can see, with a draw distance so far you can't notice things switching textures and with the improved lighting shadowing effects.  No doubt about it, next gen is going to be pretty.

i was expecting better but then again their probably still working on it. i cant wait to see the game engine naughty dog come up with for next gen uncharted. if the difference was the same as the current unreal engine and current naughty dog engine then i cant even imagine what it would look like.

Killzone 3 looks better ! trolololol ^^

Impressive.

This thing has better graphics than Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete on Blu-Ray.

Of course, but none of them seem to get Hair right....

except maybe this

PS : you can download that demo btw.

looks very good but it looks as if she is under water

OT. meh do we really need all that? will games be better?

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

Meh. Games look good enough right now. Plus I don't see the difference in all the ON/OFF pictures so these advancements are kinda lost on me.
