Incomplete Games Generation...

Too much DLCs.

That is how they make their extra money.  You can't deny greedy game makers.  Sure it could have been included on the disc but your ass better pay for it since you bought the original game.

How about the interface generation?

Since last generation we now have:

  • Accelerometers/gyroscopes
  • Touch Screens
  • Fully developed camera interfaces

So effectively we've had 3 new ways to interface with the consoles added.

The Interface Revolution was my idea as well, but my naming system never ends in the word "generation"

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

How about "The Last Good Generation".  I think things have the potential to go south when the next home consoles release.  An increase in casual games, consoles that are trying too hard to be entertainment hubs (Ironically, the last console to be called "entertainment system" only played video games), the move towards cinematics over gameplay, and rising development costs make me think that video gaming is going to be harder to define as the "core gamer" that stayed loyal to the hobby is overlooked in favor of the fickle casual gamer.  See.  That'show you make a run on sentence!

As some have said before, this generation is about interface, the new way to play. Sorry for the pro-HD, Online or AntiWii ones.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

How about the 'play and pray' generation. With the shoddy launch hardware, buggy incomplete games that need a patch just to be able to save your game without corrupting it and finicky motion controls that either want you to turn up the lights, close the curtains, or require just a bit more room then you have available.

I've never lost as many consoles (2x 360, 3x ps3) and had as many games crashing as in this generation.

I have always seen the Gens like this myself.

Gen 1  the Home console Revolution
Gen 2 Gaming Evolution
Gen 3 The 8-bit Era
Gen 4 The 16-bit Era, The 2D swansong or so meany thought, the NEO-GEO AES was 24-bit if I remember correctly
Gen 5 The 32/64-bit (3D Revolution), but 2D just refused to die
Gen 6 128-bit era (3D mainstream era) and still 2D refused to die and the best 2D hardcore fighters are arguably from this era eg GG, SFIII 3rd Srike.
Gen 7 the Experimental HD Gen.

Gen 8 will be the true HD Gen

Japanese Pop Culture Otaku

HD Gen

As sales are showing right now, we are seeing a shift in the market trends and by the end of the gen HD may not have sold more than Wii but will be remembered due to their rise late in the gen. Wii might be remembered as how a good idea that was a phenomenon eventually kind of fizzled out.

That's right, if you want to call this generation anything HD related it would be "HD ready" since the next one should be the Full HD experience.

I would still name this generation as the motion one. Maybe Controller revolution

You say tomato, I say tomato

"¡Viva la Ñ!"

7th generation seems fine to me, but if it's anything it's the motion generation.

To paraphrase a rather common joke around here, the HD era doesn't start until somebody delivers on the promises of 2006 (will also accept the biggest HD games actually being in HD as a starting point, yes I'm looking at you COD).
