Forums - Sony - modnation racers. WTH happened???

Well, I love platform and racing games, so LBP was a must because it was the only platform game on the console for ages, at least until the Sly Trilogy came out. I eventually got a used copy of Mod Nation Racers but really the PS3 is overflowing with racing games. I mean you have GT5, Wipout, Motorstorm 1 and 2, MNR from Sony alone, not to mention the countless others from third parties.

I though the BETA was lackluster also with its huge loading times and several glitches.

I really did think it would sell more after the HUGE E3 presentation it got from Sony. I mean that's premium advertising.

load times killed it for me, it takes 4 minutes to get into a race

What happened?

It was bad game - simply.

I tested beta and it had ugly loading times and I didn't see any reason to spend cash on something like this.

Also huge mistake was not putting sackboy there.

Pretty much this.

I played it and it was a bit meh.

Plus, with Mario Kart and GT5, there's better kart games, and better PS3 racing games out there, so that's really the reason IMO

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

really PS3 gamers, thats all Modnation did. Oh sure you can say combined with the PS3 version it has sold over a mil, but man this was supposed to be the ish. Its pretty much LBP Kart, I mean that in a good way and that game did great. Are we too cool for childish kart racing games?? Was the load times too much, its not like they havent fixed it with a patch( i know devs shouldnt be relying on that, but thats another rant). Was it too hard??? Gamers are supposed to want a challenge, FYI  i beat the campaign mode BEFORE they put in the patch to make it easier. Those two problems i just mentioned are fixed, so for the most part, IMHO MNR is damn near flawless, the online community is still there.

i recenty had the game i thought it was terrific. BUT THE UPDATES TOOK ME SO LONG IT WAS A BLOODY JOKE

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

I'm just waiting for someone to make a spoof topic titled "Oniyide. WTH happened???" and give everyone a good laugh.

I hope it's done by Rol.

Played it a friends house, after waiting for about an hour and a half of 7 updates worth about 2GB we finally got into the game. Not before the abysmally long loading screens, but after that the game was OKAY-ish, maybe I am not the one into arcade racers but I found that game very average, but then again we played for about half an hour and then got bored.

I'd be surprised if anyone picks it up and will have the patience to sit through the row of patches and load screens long enough to make yourself a sandwich, eat it, digest it and then play.

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

I dunno why.

Racing is fun, creating tracks is fun, hell, the whole game was great for me. Just the loading times were a bit annoying, but you get used to it.

I blame the gamers. Yes, I blame YOU for not buying this awesome game.

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

And here is a documented case of what can go wrong in the world of the opinions of people.  WHY do you blame gamers for not buying something?  Let me again repeat a FUNDAMENTAL rule regarding game design: You need to design things that have an intrinsic want to do value to people who own a certain console.  This comes BEFORE how excellent the execution is.  Can people here GUARANTEE to me that there are MILLIONS of PS3 owners who are eagerly awaiting a good kart racing game?  Look at how Blur turned out also.   I would say that these are signs that desire for kart racing is likely limited to the Nintendo platform.  People who want cart racing get a Nintendo platform.  Unless there is some way Sony could make ModNation a MUST own for the PS3, and an evergreen title, it isn't going to happen.  On this note, how is JoyRide doing?

By the way, since when does ANYONE presume just because THEY happened to get used to annoying aspect to a game that others would also? And yes, the load time... once you get past what I described, I am sure the load time was an issue.  The patch they released for MNR showed it was a problem.

Since LBP was such a huge hit, they figured they'd find success with a Play, Create, Share brand kart racer. But they forgot to Create something that people want to Play.

You can call it a spoof, but it also touches on this.  I created a thread using the original post of the thread as the basis for it and asked people why they don't play chess:

I also ask about Go in the end, in a separate paragraph.  Issues with chess people may have are addressed by Go, but still why not people here play it?  Do people hate turn-based strategy games?
