Worth saying that this was at the end of December. Our RETAIL sales for the game at the end of December are as follows...

Worldwide - 5.07 Million

Japan - 560k

Americas - 1.4 Million

Europe/Asia (And other areas) - 3.08 Million
______________________________

It's hugely undertracked, really.

Yes, Japan and America retail are quite compatible with their respective shipped numbers, but EMEAA and WW look undertracked by 600-700k, if the % of units still on the shelves or in the channel is the same in EMEAA as in JP and America or even slightly higher than in America (as JP being a smaller region will have the smallest % in the channel, America has obviously a larger one and EMEAA % should be by a small amount larger than America, being more sparse but with its most important part commercially, EU, with similar compactness and average transports distances and efficiency to North America).

Also, considering the first shipments, Asia should give GT5 at least 300k units lifetime more than to GT4.

It seems to be me that this makes sense.

if this is the real number then its possible that GT5 could do 8mil by the end of the year and 10mil by 2013. which is great news.

but are other PS3 games are undertracked?? because Sly Cooper certainly is, but are their other ones dont we know about??

could a moderator please comment on their thoughts about this matter because i'm curious if GT5 is a one off, or part of a bigger picture we cant see yet! theres also more PS3s in Europe than any other region, and we know this region is very difficult to track so any information from vgc mods would be much appreciated!

i keep hearing people saying Sly is undertracked, im not saying its not, but what makes you guys think it is

can't remember for which country it was, but we had SW numbers for one country in Europe and the sales for sly collection in that country alone was more than what we have for the whole region

I believe sales numbers for Finland were posted on a tracking site and they were around half of what the site has - i.e. according to VGC half of the Sly Collection's sales in EMEAA were in Finland alone!

Haven't looked at it in detail but I'm sure it was Finalnd - maybe you could search for it?

I think a lot of lower level selling titles are undertracked vs the big titles whose sales are clearer.  I imagine it would be hard to fix, though.

Here it is:

according to FIGMA (FInnish Games and Multimedia Association) Sly Collection sold 11,911 copies in Finland alone and in 2010 alone, while according to VgChartz it sold 11,694 in the whole EMEAA in 2010 and 2011 combined...

I guess Sly Collection sold a little over 100k in EMEAA... just like America.

Either that or FInland is the only country that likes Sly Cooper in Europe (lol). but my point was that if Sly and GT5 are in this scenario, then what games dont we know about. and i was hoping an administrator could comment on their thoughts on the matter, because i'm not sure if we're right or if vgc's numbers are right.

Finland should be 1% of the whole EMEAA, at most.

GT5 shipped 6.4mil and was at at 5.1mil sold. Considering Kinect Adventures was at 8mil shipped and 7.1mil sold at the end of the holidays and there were plenty of kinect shortages in at least the Americas while there were no GT5 shortages. I think its safe to say its undertracked by a max of 300-400k or kinect adventures is massively undertracked as well.

The large shipment numbers are probably because the actual sales were approaching the 5.5mil initial shipment or w.e it was and european retailers got stocked up expecting the great sales to continue.

Just by looking at the PAL charts we can also see that while GT5 is doing good its already behind Black Ops ps3 and fifa ps3 almost everywhere in Europe. It will be easy enough to know in future months if its extremly undertracked. If a few months from now there is another big shipment increase then it was indeed massively undertracked if not then we won't have any way of telling.

as time passes shipments and sold to customers should get closer...

I didn`t expect those figures to be honest , but it's simply proven that GT fanbase will never abandon their beloved racing video game. Nevertheless, Good job Sony.

Yes but here something is different.

After 10 days, Sony announced they shipped 5.5m. That was in early December, then at the end of the month we know they shipped 6.37m (we don't have such a thing for KA, don't forget it's bundled with a hardware piece, and shortages were in NA only), that means the first shipment was sold and that 5.5m at least were sold by the end of December. Here at VGC, we had it just over 5m.

So it's undertracked by more than what you said. 6.37m shipped and 1m on shelves is impossible, because when that happens (a lot shipped, few sold), retailers are screwing the price and you find the game at -30% or such and it didn't happen. Plus it was in the holiday season, so it's safe to say that ~500k were on shelves if not less, we're almost in March the game is for sure over 6.3m.

Most probably, as I wrote, basing ourselves on the sold to users/shipped ratio, GT5 end user sales are correctly tracked in America and Japan and undertracked in EMEAA. Kinect could suffer from the exact opposite, correctly tracked in EMEAA and Japan and undertracked in America (and maybe UK too). Anyway, even applying a very unfavourable sold/shippd ratio compared to America and Japan, minimum undertracking for GT5 could be more than 500k. Considering the ratio slightly worse than America the result is 600k or more undertracked.
