Forums - Microsoft - THQ expects Kinect's success to continue

http://123kinect.com/thq-kinect-success/

According to Brian Farrell, CEO of THQ, Kinect will continue to be successful. Moreover, he says that augmented reality represents a big opportunity on the Kinect and that THQ’s Fantastic Pets is the first to combine augmented reality and Kinect. Fantastic Pets is planned to be released on 18th March.

Brian Farrell explained that the success of Kinect is due to the ease of user interface:

The great thing about Kinect – and why I think why it’s going to continue to be successful and where we can even get better – is ease of user interface. Voice commands; people who aren’t gamers love walking in on ‘play game’, ‘turn on level’.

Kinect and augmented reality

Furthermore, Brian Farrell discusses on the opportunity augmented reality represents for developers.

I think we’re just starting to figure out what we can do with it. Augmented reality is a real opportunity on the Kinect as a consumer experience. Between augmented reality, user interface and just new play patterns, we think the Kinect will have a very successful future.

[For developers] it’s more about new ideas and new creative than new tech. Ideas aren’t expensive, tech is. What we love about it is they’re not expensive to develop, it’s just a matter of coming up with the right idea, the right creative.

I cannot deny that Kinect offers lots of possibilities for game developers and by combining Kinect technology with another technology, the opportunities increase. However, I must try Fantastic Pets first to have a better grasp on how Kinect would work with augmented reality and what other opportunities are there, before agreeing with Brian Farrell.

OT:

I agree...its been a massive success so far and I don't see it falling off.

E3 is important to judge what kind of steady stream of games its gonna be getting from devs.
