Forums - Gaming - Think I'm taking a year off buying games..

I won't be taking the year off, but I will probably buy less.  I got a new job in August of last year, and finally had some cash to spend.  I bought a lot of the cheaper, older stuff I wanted, and I got a bunch of newer stuff when their were good deals online.  Now, I don't have the time to play it all.  I've got seven completely unplayed games sitting around right now.  I've hardly touched another two.  I'm going to try and get through that stuff before I start buying other games.

Anyone else gonna stop buying games or at least tone down the purchases for awhlie for whatever reason, either because of a lackluster year of gaming/lack of funds, or both?

Wow, you're talking about possibly the strongest year in the history of gaming.

Gears of War 3
Uncharted 3
Batman Arkam City
Dark Souls
Rage
Battlefield 3
Assassin's Creed 3
LA Noire
Killzone 3
Dragon Age 2
Forza 4
The Cursed Crusade
The Witcher 2
Duke Nukem Forever
Deus Ex 3
Total War Shogun 2
Infamous 2
Guild Wars 2
Might & Magic: Heroes VI
Twisted Metal
Tob Raider
Crysis 2
Mortal Kombat
and possibly The Last Guardian

(I'm glad Skyrim is high on your priority list though )

Also thats just the games we know of being released this year. What about the Nintendo and Microsoft games that they are holding back for E3. Then their all the other games announced at E3 it seems that almost every year these days is yet another massive year for gaming.

I can't wait to see what Nintendo and Microsoft have yet to announce for this fall/winter!

Pretty sure you are going to be disapointed with MSes annoucements, best case senario 2 kinect games that will release by the end of the year that we don't know about, MS just doesn't have the devs

Well I bet I will too, their is a project coming from Rare which I hope is Banjo , Conker or Perfect Dark. But since they just fired most of Rare's art team it sounds like the studio might be going from creating games to apps. I wish Microsoft tried to revive Rare. Or Microsoft could at least out source some of Rare's IPs to other internal studio's or maybe even liscense it to a third party like Nintendo did with StarFox and Donkey Kong.

well as the first half of that 4chan rumor was true there might be some truth to the rest of it which stated rare's new game is kinect sports 2.

Oh, I think this was another thread about Wii has no games for 2011...

that is the most ridiculous list of games ive ever seen, all supposed to be releasing this year although im sure some things will change.  Holiday 2011 is going to be more jam packed than ever before as well, my goodness this is crazy!  What I try to do is keep it to one new release per month, although even thats a little bit difficult.  On this list alone are about 17 day one purchases for me, which seems way too high but thats speaking to the quality of releases this year.  I have been trying to evaluate my purchases much more than before, making sure I dont drop 65 bucks on a game just to get rid of it a month later.  I did this with ac brotherhood and black ops, both series are getting stale for me and I cant justify purchasing either one this year.  With so many new games coming out, I really have to try and weed out the best of the best so I dont make the same mistake I do every year and end up with a few untouched, unopened games that i purchased 2 months ago because I have enough on my plate already.  Moderation man, moderation.

Which are the 17 day one?

Lets see, ill just list every game im buying day one:

Zelda SS, Mass Effect 3, Uncharted 3, Skryim, Portal 2, Dragon age 2, Killzone 3, Yakuza 4, Disagaea 4, Resistance 3, Gears of War 3, Infamous 2, Guild wars 2, Battlefield 3, LA Noire, Dark Souls, Batman Arkham city and if they come out this year The Last Guardian and Twisted Metal

Games im not sure about:

Deus Ex 3, The Witcher 2, Rage, Duke Nukem Forever, Mortal Kombat, Crysis 2, Tomb Raider and im sure theres more I just cant think of em right now

I didnt even include downloadable games that I will most likely be getting, and so far this year Ive purchased dead space 2 and mass effect 2 amongst a few older games that i wanted to catch up on.  The good thing is i just got a promotion and raise so ill definitely be able to afford all of these, and here i was preaching moderation lol, its just too damn difficult with all of these great games coming out.

And I dont know how I managed to leave FF XIII-2 out, but that is hands down a day one purchase if it reaches the states this year, which I doubt but who knows.

I plan on finishing my back - log of games before I buy another one. Games I originally planned to buy on Day 1 ( LBP2 and KZ3 ) will need to wait. I'll pick either of them up when they reach $30.

Who's the best Pac, Nas, and Big. Just leave it to that.

I was gonna say that you have very good taste in games until you added FF Verses.

No but really, you listed sooo many great games.

I got enough backlog to keep me for a year or two, if I purchase PS3 on top of that I'll have to add KZ2, UC2, Resistance 1/2, Maybe Heavy Rain, Infamous ontop of the backlog I already have. After that in 2011 I am looking forward to:

ME3, Diablo 3, Crysis 2, Homefront, Portal 2, Gears 3, L.A Noire, KZ3, UC3, TLG, Infamous 2, Battlefield 3, next COD probably - although will be skeptical about buying it.

And that's just the ones I remember off the top of my head, and no impulse buys included, probably a few games announced at E3 too. I am adding the PS3 games in there as they will be added to my backlog anyway, as I am yet to purchase PS3, but considering I have no access to any gaming console at all now, my backlog is just f'ing growing. With uni and all I don't think I'll catch up any time soon.

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

I've been doing that since last year. I only bought a handful of games back then. This year, the only game I really want is Resistance 3, but I might get another game or 2.

I took a year off from buying games. I bought Super Smash Bros. Brawl on day 1 (March 8, 2008) and then bought Madworld one year later(March 10, 2009).
