You might think this is an odd question given globally Wii is still only 59% of PS2's LTD. But look a little closer and you'll see that it's not that far away in some places. Not all countries are tracking equal.

Does the answer surprise you? What about the regions where it's furthest away, does that surprise you?

It's near certain that PS2 will be overtaken in LTD sales in AUs/NZ some time in 2011. It may happen in France in 2011 too, but more likely will happen in 2012 (unless Wii 2 is being hotly anticipated by then).

Before Wii 2 comes out I think Wii will knock off a few other countries / regions. But I don't see it happening World wide.

severly is an overstatement. 7-8mil might be a lot to current consoles but as a percentage of 141million it is quite small. Since most of the missing ps2s probably come from South America. Afria/Asia, and Eastern Europe I would say it will outsell ps2 in western Europe and Australia.

And ioi confirmed that PS3 number here are undertracked a lot (5 million or more).

The only hardware to overtake PS2 will be DS.

but seriously... Wii has the ubisoft hometurf advantage... Frenchies connect well with the RRR humor and that was a great system seller.

That seems to be the case. I doubt Wii will sell more than PS2. Sony's console dominance was absolute band it had such a strong line up! Nintendo's console may have sold faster, because of the novelty, but PS2 sold steady because of the amazing quantity of quality games it had.

I think you may have misread the title and then skipped the OP...

No. The best region for that happen is AU/NZ with 90%... but even there that not will be happen.

The GAP is 240k and Wii sold less than 300k last year in AU/NZ... more the PS2 seems undetracked there like PS3.

And that the only region listed with possibility.

It can overtake PS2 in US/UK/Aus/France in other teritories likely never.

If you think Wii won't sell another 10%, (Australia is a region where we have official PS2 figures, 2 million in 2007 so it does not at all look undertracked), you're crazy. Even with a 50% decline this year (it declined 19% in 2010) it would still make it.
