Yup, the PS2 is indeed the best. Must agree!

Just when will it stop selling? And will the Wii or PS3 leave a similar legacy?

I think PS3 will as all these PS2 buyers right now will look to PS3 as a natural upgrade in 3-4 years time. Obviously some of them may pick 360 or Wii...but there's a chance they may pick PS3.

Agreed. When the price is similar, why not?

I see the Wii hanging about because of the image it has, akin to that of the PS2. They'll fly off the shelves at $99

The 360, I find unlikely. Unless Kinect lasts all year, at good, no, GREAT sales, there's no reason to choose 360 over PS3 at a similar price tag IMO

Yeah its hard to predict 360, but we can't deny its doing amazing for its what 6th year on the market now. So far its shown to have the best longevity of the 3 systems,...I think PS3 will show this too.

Wii even though it shows YOY declines, sales volume is still quite hgh. At this rate it seems all 3 should last...but I really think PS3 may just outlive the other two.

I agree, the PS3 has the graphical staying power and the line-up, as well as other features (Blu-Ray) to keep it going long after the Wii and 360 are memories. Well, maybe an extra year

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Damn that PS3 is so salty in EMEAA (and Japan for that matter)

I honestly can't imagine how bad the 360 would be doing right now in EMEAA if it weren't for KINECT.

Excellent! :D a price cut would do wonders for the ps3 in this region

Yeah but that would be too easy, if you know what i mean. they're outselling the Wii despite the higher price, this region will buy the PS3 without a price cut in Europe, same goes for Japan. - and they probabily want to recoup those billions of losses, so i dont think they'll cut it until maybe Uncharted 3 releases.

the only place it could use a price cut is the UK, where the 360 is doing a bit better. i think however there will be a lot of games that means they wont cut the price in the UK just yet.

and of course the US, where it seems like the price cut is the only thing that will work. imo Sony are going to wait until they outship/sell the 360 console (which may not be far off) until they cut the price. i think this is because it would be embarassing for them to cut their price, outsell the 360, only to be overtaken again, i think they want to secure the lead before they use the price weapon.

either way the sales in Europe and Japan will explode when the price cut happens.

VGC Pro wasn't effecting me like I thought it would.

Nothing shocking here. Looks like we'll have another week where all three are within a few thousand units of each other. The only question remains; which order will they be? I think it will go like last week; 360 - Wii - PS3 with the 360 winning by 5-6k and the Wii beating the PS3 by 3-4k.

It will be boring until 25th March...then, at least FW, 3DS will destroy everything else. Unfortunately the million shipped will last some days, not much more.

Bah, who cares about 3DS vs. PS3 they're not in direct competition. If PS3 rides out most of the year ahead of Wii week on week then that's an amazing result considering those consoles' relative positions just 2 years ago. PS3 is doing great everywhere other than Americas. Effing up in America is really going to end up being the only significant downside to PS3's performance by the end of the generation. Losing UK is also a bit of a bummer but in the scheme of things it's not as big of a deal. Distant 2nd in Japan's a pooh as well, but it's recoverable for next gen, unlike Americas.

Everything below 200K WW this week? Or will 360 squeeze past? It's possible if it's more or less flat in Americas.

Talking about great triumphs or victories when everything is in a 10k range shows how poor sales are. 3DS will change that (if there aren't supply constrains) so for me those weeks will be interesting. These ones are meh, we all know the decline of the Wii and the surge of the HD systems, the power of PS2 and DS, the conflict between flop/win for PSP. Same week as many coming.

You will notice of course that I was talking about PS3 potentially doing amazingly if it stays ahead of Wii all year, if so that will be more than merely 10K. Also you notice I reference the relative performances 2 years ago. Just to save the bother this was the weekly sales this time 2 years ago:

DS 180,048 ( 4%) 37,457,795
Wii 146,230 ( 1%) 16,671,936
PSP 94,237 (-4%) 18,538,678
PS3 77,371 (-1%) 8,766,295
X360 71,107 (-1%) 10,333,518
PS2 64,971 (-7%) 58,071,625

Now tell me there hasn't been a reveresal of fortunes Wii to PS3. 67K in favour of Wii then, 23K in favour of PS3 now. We are talking about 90K change around, not just 10K. If on 31 January 2009 I told you that in 2 years PS3 would sell 20K more than Wii on the same week, you would have laughed so hard that yesterdays coke would have spurted out your nose onto the screen.

Can't we see the sales ranked by plateforms anymore? Or do we we have to get VGC pro for that?

It's both fascinating and depressing how for 360 one region, Americas manages to cancel out the gap in EMEAA and Japan, fascinating because how strong the brandpower is in America, and the amount of people that are still buying 360, I personally would have thought it had hit the saturation point, but apparently not, it's still going strong. Depressing because of the reliance on one region, if it does hit the saturation point then 360 will plummet in WW sales, then the sales will decrease dramatically in comparison with the competition.

Good EMEAA numbers for February.

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

You're right of course, but asking the Wii to sell more than its competitors, which had more than just a price cut (redesigns, big third party exclusives, Move/Kinect) is foolish. When the HD systems will reach 80m do you think they'll keep selling like now? Sony and Microsoft had a great comeback, but comparing the sales of a system which sold just average for its whole life with the record-breaking system is not right. Actually, the Wii is still over the PS2 in the same time-frame I think. Won't reach it because there's not a Wii Slim...
