Bah, who cares about 3DS vs. PS3 they're not in direct competition. If PS3 rides out most of the year ahead of Wii week on week then that's an amazing result considering those consoles' relative positions just 2 years ago. PS3 is doing great everywhere other than Americas. Effing up in America is really going to end up being the only significant downside to PS3's performance by the end of the generation. Losing UK is also a bit of a bummer but in the scheme of things it's not as big of a deal. Distant 2nd in Japan's a pooh as well, but it's recoverable for next gen, unlike Americas.

Everything below 200K WW this week? Or will 360 squeeze past? It's possible if it's more or less flat in Americas.

Talking about great triumphs or victories when everything is in a 10k range shows how poor sales are. 3DS will change that (if there aren't supply constrains) so for me those weeks will be interesting. These ones are meh, we all know the decline of the Wii and the surge of the HD systems, the power of PS2 and DS, the conflict between flop/win for PSP. Same week as many coming.

You will notice of course that I was talking about PS3 potentially doing amazingly if it stays ahead of Wii all year, if so that will be more than merely 10K. Also you notice I reference the relative performances 2 years ago. Just to save the bother this was the weekly sales this time 2 years ago:

Now tell me there hasn't been a reveresal of fortunes Wii to PS3. 67K in favour of Wii then, 23K in favour of PS3 now. We are talking about 90K change around, not just 10K. If on 31 January 2009 I told you that in 2 years PS3 would sell 20K more than Wii on the same week, you would have laughed so hard that yesterdays coke would have spurted out your nose onto the screen.

You're right of course, but asking the Wii to sell more than its competitors, which had more than just a price cut (redesigns, big third party exclusives, Move/Kinect) is foolish. When the HD systems will reach 80m do you think they'll keep selling like now? Sony and Microsoft had a great comeback, but comparing the sales of a system which sold just average for its whole life with the record-breaking system is not right. Actually, the Wii is still over the PS2 in the same time-frame I think. Won't reach it because there's not a Wii Slim...
