That is also the "genre" that jonager, or pretty much 99% of anyone who actually refers to the genre "JRPG" would like.

kthxbye <3

You used the 'whatever the majority say is right' argument in an attempt to ignore the most popular JRPG franchise of all time? Seriously?

Face it, the JRPG genre is alive and well and there's nothing you can say that will alter this. What all of you are complaining about is that the market has moved onto the consoles that you do not like; DS, PSP and to a lesser extent, the Wii and even the 360. Whereas you only count a game s a JRPG if it is on a Sony home console.

WTF???....

It's funny how you go from telling me that the JRPG is alive because pokemon and Mario and Luigi games sell a lot to telling me that I just hate the fact that there are a lot of JRPGs now for other consoles, without once trying to understand what I said and trying to comment on that and my point of view, and even go as close as you can to calling me a Sony (or PS3?) fanboy...

Let me explain to you, again, what I said before, in hope that you will try and understand what i'm saying.

Me, and many other pepole fell in love with the JRPG genre because of games like Final Fantasy 7, Chrono Trigger and Xenogears, because they had great stories, atmosphere and soundtracks, and not because of their gameplay.
JRPGs today, no matter the console, have shitty stories compared to what was during the PS1 days, most pepole who care about stories in this genre consider it a fact.

So, what happens when pepole who play genre X for reason A, can't find any more games that have that good "reason A", which in that case I mean stories?
They stop playing the genre, and it's dead for them.

Was I clear enough this time? Do you understand that I don't care how many copies pokemon and mario and luigi games sell? Do you understand that the fact that Pokemon and Mario and Luigi games are JRPG games, and they sell a lot, don't mean anything to me, because I talked about how the genre was dead for me, and for many other pepole because JRPGs don't have good stories anymore, and not from sales prespective?

I do plan on getting a PSP for many of the JRPGs it has, I already got a Wii for Xenoblade and The Last Story (and many other games), I don't plan on getting a DS because the only good JRPG that I heard it has (a JRPG that I will consider "good") is The World Ends with You, and I won't get a 360 for Lost Odyssey and Tales of Vesperia.

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

Sakaguchi, we need you back at Sony's fort.

THIS!

He won't, he detests Ken Kutaragi and has vowed to not support the console Ken founded (PS3)...we might see a NGP game from him though.

OT:

The sales in Japan are horrendous, I am never ever getting hopes up for the sales of a new IP in Japan ever. Even Ninokuni (DS) while sold well underperformed.

This has me very worried about Ninokuni (PS3), I don't think it'll ever make a profit with just 200K-300K sales.

If SONY can get Gabe Newell onbored then SONY can get Sakaguchi Hironobu san onbored.

The future of TLS is on PS3... or NGP!

Fragile Dreams (for Wii) had an intellectual and great story (and side stories). Way better than FF & Co. ever had.

It's a Nintendo IP.

However, there is an argument that I can make in TLS' favor.  Mistwaker's previous console RPGs, Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey both had second weeks around the 10k range, totalling in at about 18k and 12k, respectively.  Drastic as TLS' second week sales are, they're still a bit higher than that, so with any luck it still may go on to be Mistwaker's best selling IP in Japan.  Of course, that is assuming if it can provide enough staying power, but given how new IPs perform in Japan these days, particularly new ones for the Wii, it is an iffy prospect at best.  (OTOH, it IS ahead of Xenoblade's second week by far--while that title didn't drop so drastically, it only made about 105k for its LTD.  TLS is above that.)

That's not a very good argument when you look at the user base of the two systems.  The Wii user base is almost 10 times that of the 360.  So that fact that TLS is only selling slight better than LO and Blue Dragon in absolutely numbers means the attach rate of TLS horrible compared to that of LO and Blue Dragon.

Userbase does NOT mean ALL sales are equivalent. Userbase only oncreases potential customers, not actual customers.

yh but with wii's huge userbase when compare with 360. you would expect TLS to do better

With the huge userbase the Wii has, you would expect that Metroid Other M did better, yet a game in a 4 times smaller base sold 4 times more than it. Installed base has nothing to do with more sales.

Above: still the best game of the year.

The Last Story sold more than games as Blue Dragon that released in a region with a userbase of 300K...Oh yes The Last Story must be a succes..>_>

Shame Nintendo own the IP

...you know, not EVERY game's future is on the PS3 or NGP like you seem to think, especially not Nintendo IPs

Userbase doesn't mean anything. New IPs have difficulty selling in any area, so these sales are pretty expected

You didn't expect FF or MH numbers did you?
