Terrible TLS sales compared to expectations. Good thing I didn't let myself get carried away by them.

What would you think about Nintendo if neither TLS or XB make it to the US?

The only RPG I want for the Wii is DQX and that's only because it's Dragon Quest, I can't deal with last generation graphics anymore.

So, do people still think TLS had shortages?

Indeed! Hard to believe there was a shortage in the first place... This must have been part of a clever scheme to keep the hype around the game. But the harsh reality is here : TLS sales don't live up to expectations. Sakaguchi can prepare his bagpack... or pay a visit to Sony!

Well, we hear reports like that all the time, and they are infrequently true. There are some cases (think Wii Fit), but not many.

Disappointing TLS sales...it'll sell better in the West though.

IF it does come out in the west, i can only see it barely cracking a million IF its getting amazing reviews similar to valkyria chronicals or demon's souls.

If it's released at all.

But it doesn't share any of the elements that make Wii games succesfull in the west

- no innovative gameplay

- not backed up by strong IP

- not remake of big title from past Nintendo consoles

- it isn't party game

MH3 didn't have any of those qualities (strong IP but only in Japan) either yet sold well because it was marketed right. Even DQ IX even though that's on the DS still sold over 1 mil in the West and that has none of these qualities either. Most of the hype for TLS we've seen is from people over here in the West. Just market it right...show off the features of the battle system and the town, the whole dress up aspect, the online PvP and co-op, the fact that it's from Sakaguchi etc. and it should sell well.

Dragon Quest is well known IP even in the west no matter how you put it. DQ VIII has 630k sales in NA alone and Monster Hunter is established IP with a plenty of recognition (not many people buy it but a lot of gamers heard about it)

Both of those games have sold less than their previous iterations in the west, so I'm not sure how that refutes his point.  Sure they've had less time to sell, but a game selling on par with the previous games in the series doesn't say anything about the potential of a new IP.

Maybe DQ VIII, but it could definitely be overtracked. We don't have enough info to go on with that game but DQ IX still sold over 1 mil when other DQs aren't always very successful so that's promising.

MHFU is absolutely overtracked...for fisical year 2009 it only shipped 450k across NA and EU. No way it managed to sell nearly 900k like VGC says.

Well DQIX was the next mainline DQ after VIII, so it makes sense that it would outsell all the spinoffs and remakes in between.

As for monster hunter, yeah it is overtracked, but so is the Wii version.  Capcom still has it at 1.8 million (and I don't think there has been a budget SKU yet).  1.15 million of that went to Japan, so that just leaves 650k shipments to the west compared to 750k sold.

I would say the end of Sakaguchi working with Nintendo (again, lol). but i'm sure TLS sales are not down to the quality of the title, but the casual Wii userbase. imo the western sales will generate a good response. the old FF fans (SNES) wont let Sakaguchi down - that is who i assume would be buying his games.

I do not want to dissapoint you but here in the EU FF7 was the first Final Fantasy released... So no one here played a SNES FF (except a few US imports) in the first place. The GBA titles were the first chance to play them on a Nintendo system (there was a ps1 collection of 4 and 6 though).

I would think that for some odd reason Nintendo is happy to make a loss on those games when its clear Western Sales will overcome localization costs.

Valkyria Chronicles 2nd Week Sales Comparison:

VC1 - 21K

VC2 - 22K

VC3 - 17K

Bring it back to PS3 SEGA

Damn Straight. They're just anti-trophies.

Still crossing fingers for PSP "emulator" on PS3 once NGP comes out. Then it'll be nothing but VC goodness for me for quite a while.

How does PS3 sell 23K consoles with no substantial game sales?
