Forums - Sales - "World Of Goo" Ipad edition thrashes previous sales record

Surprising on the one hand, then again, but not on the other... since World of Goo is basically perfect for the Ipad's limited functionality.

It's selling today for $1, went the way most of titles in iOS go. Will it be free down the road?

Neh.. it most games have special sales.. now it's valentines day sale.. capcom, ea, namco, sega, gameloft have dropped price..  after that most games go back up in price.. it's very easy for a developer to adjust price in the itunes store..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Pretty much, yeah. It may be "Free App of the Day" at one point, but it will never be "free" in the sense of which you're talking about

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Eh, the article's somewhat wrong.  Not in the iPad version besting the WiiWare version but how... it wasn't 1st 30 days for the latter, it was best 30 days, and the iPad version includes the $5 price reduction (2Dboy even said this was when sales actually took off).  It also leaves out the Steam version, which did 98k in it's best 30 days, but that metric included  two different $5 sales periods as well.

So basically it's...

iPad: 125,000 ($5-10) 1st 30 days

Steam: 98,000 ($5-15) best 30 days

WiiWare: 68,000 ($15) best 30 days

...all in all, I'm really more surprised by how close WiiWare is to Steam (without similar deals even), and that the iPad version beat Steam.

That's pretty interesting, but I'd bet the best 30 days were the first 30 days

I'd like to know just how well this game has sold on al platforms, and to see whether or not the sales remain at this level for an extended perio of time...

It actually had a long tail on Wii.  A year after release, 55-60% of it's total sales were on WiiWare, with the remaining 40-45% split between Steam, D2D, retail and via 2DBoy's own website (on PC, Mac and even Linux).

I know all this (period sales, one day sale, FAAD). Got myself an iPod Touch for about two years, seen the development. My collection has more than 900 games and bought about 5% of those. The thing is that all these distributors/developers are fighting each other for the $1 mass market. But who cares, it's all good for consumer that just waits for them to go down. And with the backlog I have with this device, I normally wait :)

Really? That's awesome news!

Actually, I heard the same about RUNNER and Rumble, maybe the free demoes are helping out these developers?

@Tomatito, nice. I wanted to get one for ages, but nothing appealed to me but Angry Birds, and that's coming to WiiDS  (we should use this for Wii and 3DS I reckon) anyway now

This game was a really good surprise. I played it on Wii first, few ways but good ideas are enough to create great games.
