iPad version outsold the Wii version?

I wonder why that is. How many iPad's are out there?

I'd speculate that it has to do with the fact that the AppStore is the only way to (legitimately) buy/download software on the iPad, where WiiWare is an ancillary service that is only used by a relatively small percentage of Wii owners.

But yeah, if you're one of those people who are writing off convergence devices because they aren't primarily for gaming, please reconsider your position.

If you're gonna play that card, this game was part of that Indie bundle a couple years ago during which you could buy WoG for 1 cent along with 4 other indie games if you wanted to. Yet it still sold amazingly well on the iPad...

Also, if that's the case, why did Cave Story sell any copies on Wii if it's free on PC? There's other reasons for this success

14.8 million by the end of 2010. Installed base will probably be around 50 million by the end of this year.

This game plays really well on the iPad. Direct touch interaction suits it even better than pointer interaction.

Really? I've heard criticism about the difficulty even though it's the exact same game, I assumed it was down to harder-to-grasp controls...

There were some early bugs (drag a gooball over a time bug and you trigger the bug. Oops!), but everything seems fine a couple patches later. The only other complaint I've seen  is difficulty selecting a free gooball rather than an in-use reusable gooball, such as the greens. This problem is common to all versions, as far as I know.

On the other hand, I have a knack for grasping controls that others find "harder-to-grasp," so maybe my personal experience shouldn't be trusted.

I assume that every iPad owner knows and uses the AppStore.

In comparison, what's the percentage of Wii owners who have their console online and know or care about WiiWare?

I don't want to downplay the game's success on iPad, but according to Keith Jackson's (aka DKII when he was still around) estimation, by June 2009 World of Goo had already sold more than 300.000 copies on WiiWare at 15 $/€. Not too shabby, either.

Anyway, the game is a huge and deserved success for 2D Boy.

The bulk of sales came when the price was dropped to $5 and was accidently given twice the usual advertising time on the front page of iTunes .

That's awesome! I didn't know that only 2 people worked on it :o

I hope they make a sequel!

This, about a million times

However, they said last year a sequel is out of the question. I hope they've changed their minds...

That's a shame. I would've definitely liked a sequel or something like it. Tiki Towers is similar to it but it's still not as fun.

When you drop it below $5, it becomes an impulse purchase.

I've bought a lot of $5 games that I only played for 10 mins or less before completely forgetting about them.

Hey, I'm not saying it's impossible, but, well, it's unlikely...
