Forums - Gaming - Gears of War Not Coming to PS3 Anytime Soon Says Epic Games

PS3 controller is still the best controller.  That said, I don't really care to ever see Gears on the PS3. Games like Unreal tournament and Gears have a lot in common with most Capcom games.....horrible controls. But I guess if they are designing them for the 360 it makes sense.

How would you describe the Resistance franchise, for example ofcourse...

While I'd rather not butt in, I'm just going to correct you here: Sony, if I'm not mistaken, own the Resistance IP. Microsoft, on the other hand, does not own the Gears of War IP. Owning the IP, and publishing rights, are two different things.

So they can't be compared.

But hey, it's easier to blame Sony fanboys, right...

Yeah, so what you're saying is Insomniac is forced into exclusivity, while M$ pays for their exclusivity...interesting.  Makes you wonder why Insomniac is launching a multiplatform, when they could be fat dumb and happy launching games on the PS3 forever....

He's saying Sony owns the right to the Insomiac exclusive IP's they have. Microsoft only has publishing rights with Gears, but doesn't own the IP. Same story with Mass Effect and how they lost the exclusivity of the IP as it's multiplatform now. Microsoft publishes iterations from third parties of their franchises rather than buying the IP outright.

Couldn't give a flying f**k if gears was comming to ps3 or not, and why does anyone care the ps3 already has a stellar line up as it is, besides I can't even afford to play half the games id like to play as it is.

BINGO...M$ made a strategic decision...maybe as a way to incentive the developer, maybe as a hedge on the cost of buying the IP, or maybe as a way they just weren't given the option by Epic, regardless of the issue, the fact is that THIS model used by Microsoft is what is now the industry practice, and more and more creative and forward leaning developers are seeing this as the far more beneficial way ahead, rather than working for the console maker.  It's all about how and what a console maker/publisher is willing to offer to lower risk and incentivize a developer to do.  Basically, exclusivity isn't dead, just modified...at anytime, Epic can take Gears multi-platform, but M$ INCENTIVIZES them not to, and THIS is how it should be, imho.  I think having 1st party titles is important, but ME2 is one of the best games I've played this generation (or any generation for that matter)...flat out...so evidently, multi-platform CAN be done correctly, and it's a matter of having a developer who is creative and dedicated to what they are doing.  On the other hand, look at the garbage in the way of exclusive content M$ paid for to get Japanese developers to work on content?  Computer gaming is great, but most developers are moving away from it, simply as a matter of economics, or at least diversifying their release breadth.  Looking at this generation, I think the early cost to develop titles were cost-prohibitive, but I’m certain they are drastically reduced at this point, regardless of what publisher will say…as for the future, I think the next gen of consoles will have to push to keep development cost flat…PC games haven’t had a problem with this, so it’s VERY feasible for consoles..imho.  Sorry for the longwinded reply that will probably not even get read….

I find it amazing how anyone would've really wanted or have the slightest idea that Gears of War would ever come to the PS3...

I find it amazing they said anytime soon I thought MS owned the rights and I'd never come, or does that expire some time or something I thought those things lasted centuries

Even though EPIC developed the game I'm pretty sure Microsoft owns the IP so there is no way Gears will ever end up on a home console not made by MS.

Epic has told everyone that THEY own the IP but since MS publishes it, there's no way Gears will come to PS3. Just like how BioWare and EA owns the ME IP but since MS published ME1, it's not on PS3.

Nope. Microsoft owns nothing but the publishing rights. Their exclusivity contract with epic is over after Gears 3. After that it's up to Epic what they do with the franchise.

Epic owns the IP...it's been clearly stated before.
