US and Japanese Import systems FTW!!!

gets to be a pain in the arse for games especially with 3DS coz im pretty sure that is gonna be region locked

yep region locked and ONLINE LOCKED TO REGION.

EUROPE/AUS is one region. so if you want to inport you have to go for Europe.

Otherwise you will be one lonley gamer.

If it is online locked to region that dose not mean you can't play online dude.

I know that but if you want to play against your mates and other aussies you may know, they will all have to buy a US version.

There is no point really $298 at DSe and now at BigW is close enough to $250 plus shipping.

We don't even know what good deals we can get form Europe yet. I haven't bothered checking. Games will be cheap enough either way on eBay.

Region lock is all about price control.

Let's hope the homebrew scene can make it region free for us.

Which in turn will allow piracy. Nintendo are pretty much asking for it.

I wonder if we can contact ACCC, I know alot of people complained about dvds players being region locked and they got the law to change for that.

So maybe in this case? I tried with PS3 and BluRay locking but they said not enough people have complained haha. You would think BluRay would fit under the same consumer law as dvds

Firstly mates = friends. What kind of Aussie are you not to know that?

"Nintendo 3DS hardware is available in three versions: Japanese, American and European/Australian." the Nintendo statement disclosed.

"Nintendo has developed different versions of Nintendo 3DS hardware to take into account different languages, age rating requirements and parental control functionality, as well as to ensure compliance with local laws in each region," the statement added.

It also explained that the Nintendo 3DS will offer "network services specifically tailored for each region," adding that Nintendo "wants to ensure the best possible gaming experience for our users."

"There is the possibility that Nintendo 3DS software sold in one region will not function properly when running on Nintendo 3DS hardware sold in another," the statement clarified.

As a final point, the statement concluded: "Guidance will appear on every packaging of Nintendo 3DS hardware and the accompanying software. If you are in doubt, Nintendo recommends that you only purchase Nintendo 3DS software in the region where you purchased your Nintendo 3DS system."

That is what they have said.

So what I can gather from that is that the developers will choose if they want to region lock the software or not. Hopefully most won't. In anycase it will be clear on the box.

The hardware seem to be better taylored to the local markets.

Well it's Rupert Murdoch what do you expect XD but most aren't locked anyway just get a Blu-Ray player from the region you wont to import from it's easy.

haha nah, it is only a few movies that were edited.

I still got the good old VHS versions that are fully uncut. Sad I know haha. I still got some VHS tapes that were released in the 70s-80s that work great.

So 30-4years old. I wonder if my DVD collection will still be readable after so many years.
