Forums - Gaming - How Powerful is the NGP? Comparison

Okay, so this proves what, exactly? Yes, the NGP blows everything out of the water in terms of specs, and it is, by far, way more powerful than any handheld ever seen. But if developers can't put that to good use, then it's a waste. The PSP was far more powerful than any other handheld preceding it, and it did not live up to its full potential because developers could not utilise its power. I just want to wait and see what types of games will be available.

I wonder how large the battery will be...Maybe 1500 or 2000 mAh? That would be sufficient enough to ensure a 4-6 hour battery life, right?

NGP is insane. I'll be buying it but i'm not sure when.

It's odd that he talks about the iPhone/iPad as closer to NGP than the 3DS is, when the iPhone and iPad are almost identical in real capability to the 3DS. Yes, they have more raw processing power, but most of that goes to managing an entire operating system. The 3DS's two 266MHz processors should allow a similar amount of processing devoted to gaming as the iOS devices. Similarly, the ram on the iPhone/iPad also is largely used by the system's bloated OS, but in this area probably has a genuine advantage. In graphics processing they should be roughly equal.

But yeah, more on the topic of the NGP itself, it's some impressive tech. I'm certainly buying one (in addition to a 3DS), but I won't buy either till there's software I want for them, and that won't be at launch for either system.

Sweet...I always wanted to see an apples to oranges comparison with no reference points or benchmarks.

Me, too! :D Because comparing a device with a closed operating system meant for multitasking to a device built solely for gaming is so effective...

This thing will melt your hands...from the awesomeness!!!!

and the sheer heat

I didn't think the Killzone and Uncharted screens looked any better than Resident Evil and MGS on the 3DS, honestly.

Edit: these ones

Yep very effective at building hype...it also works well as filler when there is no real information to go on.

Seriously though mhz comparisons dont always indicate performance levels.

ATI 5870 has 80 texture units, 850 mhz graphics chip clock and 1200 mhz memory clock...

It surely has to murder the Nvidia GTX 580 with only 64 texture units, 722 mhz graphics clock and only 1000 mhz memory clock. Right? Right?!? Errr no...

im not saying NGP won't be a powerhouse, but some publications will post anything for advertising revenue, including meaningless comparisons like this.

Thanks for the info. I still need to see this things running though.

Screen shots are alot different then when playing a game, and I can see the jagged edges on the MGS one quite clearly
