Forums - Gaming - Guess what Sega thinks the best selling console next Christmas will be? #1

Sony would need to keep releasing games and continue to lower the price on the PS2 accordingly. It's human nature to want the best and newest thing, so I honestly don't know.

I'd imagine that once Wii and PS3 shipments meet demand and things settle that PS2 will start to drop away. This is already happening in Japan where it has only managed to sell ~50k the biggest week of the year

Well theres hope then. If Sony's console fails go back to the PS2.

That might not be too far from the truth - I think they'll use PS2 to offset losses from PS3 for the next couple of years yet

I still can't help but think that sales for the PS2 will drop drastically in the next year or so. The fact remains it really has no AAA games to keep players interested (other than one really good jrpg).

I think it will do well this X-mas and possibly next but thats as far as it is going to go. By next X-mas ('08) there are going to be two consoles at least with 20 million install base and possibly a third depending on how things go (unlikely as it may seem now). So developers will start to shift support over to the new consoles agressively during early to mid '08. Aside from that I think a lot of the very late adoption crowd is just as likely to buy a used PS2 as they are a new one.

If you take a careful look a the PS2 sales, you will notice it is already dropping drastically.

This will be the last big holiday season for Sony´s second console I think. It will still be alive next year, but the numbers should be very low.

I also wanted to add that I think MS has a lot to do with the perception of the PS2 lasting long into this generation. With the 360 coming out in 2005 it seems to a lot of folks like "next-gen" has been here a lot longer than it really has for Sony. Currently the PS2 is only about 9 months into the next-gen lifetime of the PS3 and PS3 problems since launch I think have fueled PS2 sales. So it may be a bit early to say it is going to continue to have long legs that far down the road. Especially when Sony starts shifting their full weight behind the PS3 in '08 as a lot of their AAA titles are being released.

Soriku, you read the date, right?

Once again Sega proves just how bright they really are.
