What happened? The Wii audience doesn't care.

Its the same console where CoD Black Ops is struggling to pass a million.

Well it just isn't as good as the same games on the HD consoles.

Regardless of the excuse, its pretty evident the Wii audience little interest in core titles.

A core game having poor sales on Wii isn't thread worthy. Its generally what happens and why developers have pulled support.

This is a ridiculous argument.

There have been plenty of successful hardcore games on the Wii. The reason Call of Duty games don't sell as well on Wii is because they're usually crappy in comparison to their PS3/Xbox/PC counterparts, and most people interested in Call of Duty are likely to own one of said platforms already. And all of that is only relevant if you make the questionable assumption that Call of Duty is "hardcore" in the first place.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Super Paper Mario, Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition, Monster Hunter Tri, Punch-Out, The House of the Dead 2 and 3 Return, and the original Red Steel are all "hardcore" games, and all of them sold well.

Also, to your point: Call of Duty 3, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Reflex  Edition, and Call of Duty: World at War are all well above one million and Black Ops will be there soon.

---------------
The Board is the best site on the Internet.

The first one got a lot of TV adverts, the second one didn't.

Ubisoft presumably cut the marketing budget when it lowered its forecast for the game to half a million (which, according to a recent Edge article, it has met).

The first one may also have created whatever the opposite of a fan base is.

The art style isn't synonymous with high selling games in this genre (cf. XIII).

The market for the game is bigger than most expect- look at Goldeneye/COD/MH sales to see that. It just wasn't advertised enough, and was up against, as said, Monster Hunter Tri, my favourite game of all time. Since I split myself between 2 locations, I could get both, both are great games, and you need to get them, but MH was advertised.

Remember they only wanted it to sell 500k...

Also, whoever said "Move", it's Wii-exclusive, and will remain Wii-exclusive. If you want the game, buy it. It's people like you which are the reason great games like this don't sell anywhere near as well as they should...

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

IMO the primary reason it was disappointing sales wise was that it took out the only decent (and probably the most popular) part of the original.  I'm not saying other factors weren't at work, but I think that was the largest reason.

What should also be remembered is that both this game and Goldeneye were released in the same week, so the sales should be counted together. When you do that, you have nearly 2 million, take off 400,000 double-purchases and there's at least a 1.6mil hardcore userbase on Wii, as is reflected with other core 3rd party titles. And this is roughly the same figure most "core" PS360 game reach, and the Wii version will do so with less advertising and lower production costs

More importantly, the first was a launch title while the second wasn't.

Limited selection allowed the original to do quite well.

First of all, there have not been plenty of successful "hardcore" games on the Wii. Those are just a few.

Second, most of the games you mentioned aren't "hardcore."

Third, I know Black Ops on Wii will hit a million. A mere fraction of what HD consoles are getting. Hence, Wii isn't very good at moving core software compared to its competitors. Getting back to my point, its no surprise a core game (Red Steel 2) did poorly.
