This sux. I agree with Seece, 6.3 million is pathetic. I'm gonna leave this console war or switch sides if we don't start winning soon.

MS doing well, profits all over the place. Kinect is a monster, but MS somehow shipped 300k more than 2008, weird.

Kinect is only partionally function outside US and UK. It will be interesting to see what happens to demand once voice control goes live to the rest of europe. Plus, MS blew Nintendo out of the water for profits for the quarter. Likely at least $200 to $300 million better. |
Not so much it seems.
And that's with the biggest thing ever, Kinect, launching that quarter. And what else does EED from MS does except for Xbox?

Above: still the best game of the year.
Shame really if they could have shipped a million more they could have sold them.
Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.
"Microsoft sold 6.3 million XBox 360 consoles during the holiday season, and 8 millon Kinect controllers in the first 60 days after launch. Memberships of its premium XBox Live online service grew 30 percent in the second quarter of its 2011 fiscal year, according to the company. Microsoft is expecting 50 percent growth in its entertainment division in the third quarter, and 40 percent overall for its 2011 fiscal year."
IF they are talking about HW. That means they expect
Q3 (Q1 2011) - 50% up is 2.3 mill, up 750k from 1.5 mill last year.
BUT, this is where it goes off ... they expect overall 40% increase in 2011 over 2010.
Fiscal year 2010 was 10.3 mill, so 40% up would be up 4.1 million, to 14.4 million. So they expect 2.3 next Q and 3.0 mill the following Q.
Edit - got my figures wrong, correct. Seems logical now.

Pretty damn impressive if you ask me. What is the combined user base of DS and Wii owners that were purchasing software this holiday season? Not to mention no businesses in the same division that are losing money bringing down the numbers for EDD.

No they aint, I corrected.
They expect
Q1 - 1.5 (2010) to 2.3 mill (the 50% increase)
Q2 - 1.5(2010 to 3.0 mill (overall 40%)
These figures fit, obviously Q1 is going to see an increase, and in Q2 they'll have stock sorted out.
40% increase in profit would be $920 million, so obviously not profit. Revenue doesn't match either.
Those are some great numbers for MS but whoever suggested that WM7 is a drain in the division is, well, wrong. I'll say wrong so I don't get banned.
Didn't the source predict 7.5 million shipped? I knew it was gonna be around 6 or so.

Profits are good yes |
In two years it should be 3 billion (hopefully), and next generation should put them in the green. (kind of the reverse of the sony brand! :P
Also remember that Kin 1 billion development cost is in this figure. Or xbox360 would be higher.

I really think it should always be stated that this isn't just the xbox division, with everything else they have in this division we have no real way to know how much the 360 has lost
Great results for microsoft though, best quarter ever
