Hopes it helps the series get back in the spot light.

*sigh* Yes Vatra! Please shoehorn a shitty co-op mode to a series that's all about isolation and psychological scares! because that's exactly what the silent hill series really needs. >_>
Thank god they scrapped it.

def. gonna play this!
looks like alan wake 2 ha ha...
I'm not feeling it. I just don't see much confidence this gen on PS3/360 for a true Silent Hill 2 type game. I'd love it personally, but this gen I just feel the ingredients for Silent Hill 2 - a slowly growing, crushing sense of inescapable doom that you cannot avoid - don't mesh with the consensus the player has to feel they are winning, there has to be combat, puzzles should be simple and kept to a minimum, etc.
Alan Wake I liked but it was a weak horror title. In fact I would argue it was a thriller and not a horror at all. Resident Evil 5 was a shooter and sold lots.
I'll try and be optimistic, but talk of cancelled MP sounds to me like yet again the game is being designed to try and be something it isn't.
I really doubt a true horror game would sell huge amounts and I'd prefer someone make one at a reasonable cost vs an achievable sales target rather than try and work out how to deliver a horror title that sells millions, particularly a horror title like Silent Hill which in its purest form I'd say was never intended to appeal that broadly.
Clearly you can make money with Silent Hill - but nothing like what I think some developers hope if they can just work out how to make it appeal more but remain true to the concept.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
Wow, the graphics are a lot better than I was expecting.
Hopefully, this will be loads better than Homecoming was.
I'm on the same boat as disolitude. While the screens look nice, it could very well end up being too gun-ho like Alan Wake. Now if it was like the previous Silent Hill games, where the focus is on puzzles, with bullets being limited in supply and combat being difficult and better off being avoided, then I'm game.
Frankly, the talk of scrapped MP plans is really starting to make me pessimistic.
Still, I'll keep watch. And again, the screens seem to show the atmosphere could very well still be there.
One thing though, the game could use a little more fog than that.

I don't think it will be much like WAKE at all, and that's a very good thing (no offense to WAKE). It's a completely different type of game, and doesn't allow you to feel confident in your sense of defense (the very basis of SH). Weapons breaking and the lack of an inventory is attempting to bring back the very sense of what makes survival horror, survival horror. Now I'm not saying there's no way Vatra can/will mess this up, but being much like WAKE won't be one of it's characteristics. |
Well, that can be a very good thing. But that's just one thing it needs to have the feel of older Silent Hill games.

Yeah you have a point. not every survival horror game has to be like RE4. i think it would be better to do something different, because Silent Hill is more about immersing yourself in the haunting atmosphere (i think). interested on seeing how this turns out. as i was too young to play and enjoy the PS2 ones, but definitly interested in this. |
:O Aren't you 2 years older than me? the first Silent Hill I played was SH1 on the PS1 and I enjoyed it... I remember getting stuck in 2 different puzzles for a while (the piano puzzle in the school and another puzzle near the end of the game in which I had to guess the answer by looking at some list of names), but I was able to play it and enjoy it :P I even got all endings.
If your PS2 still works (if you still have it :P) you should try them... I think you can also get SH1 from PS Store.
