Or the Rol threads that will flop and the ones that won't this year.

Above: still the best game of the year.

GT5 because is a game of one of the HD consoles.
My vote is going to Gran Turismo 5. Donkey Kong is a big franchise for Nintendo, but it has since given away to Metroid in terms of the Top Three big Nintendo franchise plus it wasn't given nearly as much hype as Gran Turismo 5 was. On the other hand, Gran Turismo is easily Sony's biggest selling franchise and it shows once again by the fact that within just two months, Gran Turismo 5 is Sony PlayStation 3's biggest selling exclusive game. I also think that Gran Turismo 5 will have a longer leg then Donkey Kong Country Returns, so I'm expecting that Gran Turismo 5 will win out this time.

NSMBW sold the almost same in 2009 and 2010 (~ 10 million), so can we expect the same behavior in DKCR sales? Can it archive more then 7 millions units sold in the end of this year?

GT5.
If not outright then through bundling when it's sales die off. Racing games are bundled gold.
Not everyone will buy a racer... but EVERYONE from the most casual to everyone except maybe the staunch "only play JRPGs elistist" will pop in a racer and play a few races because it's simple fun.
It's perfect as the second game in a two game bundle or as the default game in a "main line" packaging. (IE you can only get Playstations with GT5.)

You do know that DKCR has already outsold every Metroid title ever released? In fact already 1.2 million ahead of the best selling Metroid title.
It should also be noted that GT5 is not the fastest selling PS3 title. There are a few above it.

I think he meant PS3 exclusive, in which case he is correct. |
True but irrelevant.

What makes it irrelevant? |
Because in terms of the data in question, the publisher of the game content itself is not at debate.
Whether it's the fastest selling 1st party or 3rd party title on PS3...or fastest Sony, EA, Activision, Ubisoft, etc... title on PS3 doesn't change the rate at which the title is selling.
It's like saying a bunch of cars are racing and pointing out the fastest blue car. All fine and dandy if you are writing a report on the vehicle colors but irrlevant to the overall race itself.

It's still relevant, because what he was getting at gives an idea of where GT5 could be headed (seeing as it is Sony's biggest title). Regardless, I don't want to off through the thread, but I understood what he was saying. |
Fastest Sony, fastest Activision, fastest Ubisoft, fastest Sega...all irrelevant to the context of the thread. Like being the fastest blue car in the race. That's great but it's not changing the rate of sales or its context against the competition (DKCR). It doesn't matter if it's the fastest X publisher title on the platform. That only shows context against other PS3 titles. Does absolutely nothing in terms of the context against the race overall....which is against DKCR.
That doesn't take anything away from what GT5 has accomplished. It's simply immaterial to the debate.
Something else peculiar. All the games in his post were italicized.

GT5's already had a holiday, GT4 didn't at this point which makes it a somewhat apples/oranges comparison. And even considering that, GT4 sold better in the US and Japan launch aligned... GT5's sales aren't really all that encouraging when examined carefully...
