I'm a big JRPG fan, but I think the Final Fantasy series is over the hill. NES and SNES FF games were genre definining, and PS1 games were really fun too. However I think that ever since Square merged with Enix, the quality of their titles have suffered. I mean FFXI was garbage, and FFXIV was even worse. FFX and FFXII were pretty good, but I can name a bunch of JRPG's from that era which are better. As for FFXIII, I only recently got that, but to be honest Lost Odyssey was a much better game, so was Demons Soul, Tales of Vesperia, and Folklore too.
Final Fantasy has gotten crappy over time, so I probably won't get FFXIII-2. I didn't enjoy FFX-2, so I don't think I'll enjoy this. Instead I will finally beat Infinite Undiscovery, or pick up Magna Carta 2, or something else.

I didnt like FF13 either, i though it was really dissappointing. but the director Toriyama has come foward to say that FF13-2 will address the opinions of FF13. so i do respect the man for coming foward and trying to tell the fans he wont let them down with the sequel.
and i'm pretty sure that the changes will be things, like more open world, more customisation with characters, better gameplay (Paradigm Shift got soooo boring after a while), cities and towns (like FF12 style with many NPCs), more depth in mark hunting and a fight with GIlgamesh!!
however the only thing i dont know about is the story and the characters, i felt FF13s story was absolutely abysmal, the and there was so much melodrama, the dialogue was awful because it was a lot of cheesy one-liners. and the reason thats important is because the dialogue and voice acting in Dragon Quest 8 and FF12 was excellent, however i think FF13-2 will be more of the same on that front.
if i do get it, it will be bargain bin. i think the sales of this are going to be so poor, that even the people who claimed FF13 was a good game will not be able to deny how bad everyone else thought it was.
Day one for sure. FFXIII was just fantastic.

If they confirm it is more open and towns are coming back then it will move from a bargain bin to a buy at price. I got FFXIII in the bargain bin too as for me FF turned crap with the highly disappointing FFX, since then my faith in Final Fantasy has been lost.
Final Fantasy XIII for me is the greatest example of a good idea with bad execution. Final Fantasy XIII definitely isn't the worst Final Fantasy, I felt FF12, 2, 11 and 14 were much weaker but it definitely is nowhere near the likes of FF6-9.
It had some very good things but bad things for every good thing (which is why its so polarising in my opinion) which just ended up with me playing what I felt was a mediocre game. However 1 positive is that one of the redeeming features of the game (Lightning) is in FFXIII-2 and that we actually have a proper villain (from the teaser trailer) and they are just evolving the already present battle system (which was good).

But unfortunately we have seen the future of Square-Enix and its name is Final Fantasy XIV. And ,to answer your question,no,I won't buy FF XIII-2.I wont help Square-Enix become richer by milking an already mediocre title. Now all of you guys with the Lightning avatars can sue me. |
