First off, this isn't a rant about Sony or the PS3, this is a rant about SOE's Station. I have to endure it for two games now and while at first glance it may look alright, after mucking with it for a few weeks now I hate it.
No Cross Platform Play
The first glaring error with Station is that PS3 and PC cannot play together. So with DC Universe Online I cannot play with my friends on the PS3 if I'm playing on the PC. I know a good amount of people that simply won't play DC Online because they don't have a computer strong enough to run it and their friends are playing on the PC. They have a PS3 but since that doesn't work, it sucks to be them.
If they actually let me play on either freely, I and many other people would gladly buy two copies of the game. Now, if I want to play it on the PS3 and PC, I have to pay for the PC version, I have to pay for the PS3 version, I have to pay for a subscription fee for the PC version, and I have to pay for a subscription fee on the PS3. That is just completely unacceptable when the draw of the game is it's a PC and PS3 MMO.
Now with Magic: the Gathering - Tactics it's even worse! Not only is the PS3 version releasing months later, all the cards that I buy for the PC version I started playing today can't be transferred to the PS3 version. That means probably most everyone that plays it on the PC will not touch it on the PS3 because why would you want to buy cards twice?
Again, just shooting themselves in the foot here. I would gladly play M:tG Tactics on the PS3 if I could only use my PC purchases. There's no way in Hell I'm going to spend months building up my collection using real money on the PC version and then start over on the PS3 version.
The forums are only accessible after you have an account for a game
This doesn't sound like a big thing, but when you can't install a game and you need help it sucks beyond belief. It completely defeats the purpose of a tech support forum if people can't actually ask for help.
I and others had problems installing DCUO and instead of simply asking for help, I had to wait for three hours with their tech support.
So yeah, M:tG Tactics is looking to be fun even if it will drain my money and I'm having a blast with DCUO, it's just a shame Station is run by morons.
