Forums - Nintendo - More details on 3DS, such as battery and region locking

Seem's I'll be keeping the 3D off then to eke out a few extra hours. At least it's not as awful but it's still a long way from acceptable.

funny how reading back on the thread with the innitial 3-5 hour battery life how some were spinning it.

anyone with a right mind was saying how that 3-5 hours was with high brightness, 3d on, wifi, ect you name it all going.

those that wanted to bash the 3DS were saying that 3-5 would be cut even shorter with 3D on, wifi on, and high bithness ect.  Its like they thought the 3-5 was MAX it could ever get

It is the usual suspect of people, like I said before to most people. Most of the complaining crowd never wanted a 3DS in the first place. (Not you Wargam)

All good sans dumb region lock. I'll be getting one within a year-a year and a half after launch, I never get launch hardware...

sucks to hear about region lock though.  they better bring over games i want. they never brought over unlimited cruise for me on the wii, and now i hear that 1-2 are being put in same game for 3DS.  don't abandon us here.  bring that shit over.

seeing how some games are being announced for both Wii/3DS it seems like either this 3DS we will be seeing amazing quality games, or else Wii is going to be getting worse quality, lol

The 3DS seems like a pretty capable machine. One of its less ballyhooed features is that you can multi-task with it. How does that work?
A 3DS owner user can suspend any game they are playing at any point and access one of several options (all displayed across the top of the screen) that let them access a virtual notepad, a web browser and even a friends list that lets them see who else is online. As for how useful this might be: "Specifically for an example with Zelda," Nintendo's Trinen says, "If you're stuck in the water temple and you're trying to figure out where the last of the switches are that you have to hit to draw the water level down and get all the way down to the boss, you can immediately hit the home button, bring up the browser, go to whatever tip site you want to go to, figure out where that is, then switch over to the game notes, draw a map on your screen to refer to or go right back into the game." All of this can be done with the game suspended, which is superior level of support for multi-tasking than any game machine has ever offered before.

This is actually pretty cool. I've hoped for a while that this would be possible on the PS3, but I keep waiting... The web browsing that is... Obviously I can check my friends list and stuff...

2 Hours to charge with a 7 - 8 hour battery sound more acceptable to me.

Does any PSP model achieve that feat? Any model of the DS needs three to four hours to charge, but I am not familiar with all the PSP models, that's why I ask.

I'm not sure of the specifics but I know my PSP doesn't take long to charge at all and it lasts a good while. At least 6

That's with everything maxed out, though. You get 8 hours by turning the 3D off. You can also turn off Wifi or play on lower brightness settings. You don't play your PSP on highest brightness either, do you? You wouldn't get 6 hours of playtime out of a single charge in that case. According to Wikipedia the PSP battery lasts "less than 3 hours" with max settings. (Sorry I couldn't find a better source right now).

Somehow people always overestimate battery life of their handhelds. My DSi lasts 3 hours with maximum brightness. An iPhone lasts like 2-3 hours for games. But I rarely see anyone giving out such numbers

Yeah, that feature is pretty awesome. But people likes to bash about battery life more, LOL.

Is everybody really playing their portables so long every day? If the battery lasts 5 hours you should be just fine. I've never played any handheld for 5 hours on one day. (And if anyone does that regularly it's clearly too much.)

If you charge it over night you shold be just fine for a whole day. In my opinion at least.

I also have a PSP and it's battery life is similar to the reported battery life of the 3DS. When the battery is full I never have to charge it throughout the day. 5 hours seems absolutely fine to me seeing how advanced gaming has become in the last years.

And if 5 hours really isn't enough you can always buy one of those external chargers.
