Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo: Touch Generations won't be continued on the 3DS

Touch Generation is the concept for NIntendo games that can be played by everyone. Without any hability in videogames (like Art Academy, Brain Age, etc) In the last Iwata asks they decided to get rid of the brand

Iwata:
But we decided that, whereas before we had established a Touch Generations brand, created special corners in shops and used a special logo, the company has decided not to use this brand name for Nintendo 3DS.

Itoi:
Oh, I see.

Miyamoto:
We won't use Touch Generations in the future.

Iwata:
When I proposed that at an inner-company meeting where we would decide our policy the other day and asked if it was okay, everyone immediately agreed. (laughs)

Itoi:
Oh, really? Even the sales people?

Iwata:
Even them. I hate to brag about our own company, but I have to say that I thought this was quite amazing. (laughs)

Itoi:
Yeah…

Miyamoto:
Someone responsible in our sales department said something like that the mindset of dragging along the past, constantly adding little variations to it, will never give birth to a new culture. (laughs)

Iwata:
Right, right! (laughs)

Miyamoto:
I thought that was incredible.

Itoi:
It really is. (laughs)

Iwata:
I try to not use the word "success" to describe our situation as it may stir egoistic emotions which may lead us to be drowned in it. I would say that Touch Generations was one example of success. But to do the same thing is merely playing defense.

Itoi:
Yeah. (laughs)

Iwata:
Deciding that we wouldn't use that name again would allow everyone to tackle their work anew.

Why don't you make like a tree and get out of here?

Is this real? This line especially makes me think a joke.

Quite a progressive line coming from a sales rep. no matter what industry they're from.

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

So the brand is gone. They are still gonna make games for new users...must resist trolling casual gaming....

YES! I DID IT!

Oh yeah, I forgot to add (laughs)

Odd move, though i'm uncertain as to how much brand awareness it had in and of itself (outside of the actual awareness of the Touch Generations games themselves)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I think it's not a bad move. Because now, if speak about touch generation, i think the non gamer will think of iphone, ipod touch and ipad...

But we must first concentrate ourselves on the way to entertain people, for video games to live. Else, it's a world where sales representative will win, which has as effect to kill creativity. I want to say to the creators all around the world:"Courage, Dare!". Shigeru Miyamoto.

... please tell me you didn't just call Shigeru Miyamoto or Satoru Iwata sales reps.  They're a legendary game designer and CEO of Nintendo, respectively.

OT: I don't think that brand would get them far, anyway.  When the DS came out, it was the first mass-market touchscreen device that could play games.  Practically every handheld device now has a touchscreen, so the novelty and perceived uniqueness of something branded 'Touch Generations' would be nil now.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

Ya it just said they weren't using the brand name anymore. On another forum I will not mention. They feel Nintendo is leaving disruption just because the talked about not using the brand name. Really come on people.

Just because someone is saying something different. Doesn't mean their point of view is right!

It is a joke. He's clearly trolling Sony.
