Forums - Nintendo - Why doesn't Nintendo just re-invent the Wii like they did with the DS?

why not?.. Sony and Microsoft did it with there slims, Nintendo might as well redesign the wii as well, but dont call it Slim, its already slimmer enough

They will announce a new Wii by March, show it on E32011 and launch it early 2012.

The Wii does not need a redesign since it's a solid design from the start. No overheating and stuff.

The re-invention of the Wii was supposed to be Wii Motion Plus. They didn't really follow through with it, though...

They just need to support that damn Wii motion plus and maybe scrap the WiiWare and start from scratch

Honestly Nintendo makes enough money off the current model. Infact the current model managed to hold off the 360's big redesign. Kinect despite being as successful as it is never dethroned Nintendo and Nintendo still sold more units then 360. The holidays are over and Microsoft is barely leading by only thousands of sales. (I know its alittle bigger but its still not a big enough lead to consider it a victory).

What would Nintendo do with a Wii remodel? Make it smaller (Barely possible) pack in more built in memory (Possible) make it HD (No way in hell), improve the controller (Already done with WM ). Their isn't very much Nintendo can do to remodel the Wii. Giving it a new graphics card won't work once some games require the new card the rest of the casual market won't upgrade. It would see very limited success as an add on. Built in gamers wouldn't pay an extra 50$ for a slight graphical upgrade.

Lastly why bother building a remodel when your next console is coming in 2012? (Yes I know it isn't confirmed but it is highly likely).

In the end I think the only mistake Nintendo is making as far as Wii hardware goes, is not offering Red, Blue , Green , Purple , Pink and other colour Wii's. Consumers would gladly buy new Wii's for their favorite colour. Colours have boosted sales in the past for almost all of Nintendo's hardware (Handheld or GameCube/N64) I think colours would be the perfect way to temporarily boost sales without inccuring any more costs!

From your point of view it probably seems like a great idea, but nintendo obviously see things diferently

I totally agree.

I honestly think Wii could reinvent the wii by a combination or all of these:

-Redesign is a must in my eyes. I am getting tired of the Wii look. It has gotten old. They can definitely make it slightly slimmer by removing the gamecube controller & memory card ports; remove its gamecube capabilities altogether. Make it more sleek.
Ccontrollers as well. I would hope an actual Nintendo-made wireless nunchuk

-Colors, damn it. Colors!

-And, geez. Bundle some more games: from their best games (Mario Kart) to not-so-much (Wii Music).
God forbid, more third party game bundles

-Misc:
  *What happened to MP3 playback?
*Even DVD, in my eyes, is an incentive; Or streamable media for free (a la Nintendo channel, but other content than Nintendo). At least let us pay for optional DVD playback off Wii Shop Channel.
*Inclusion of Apps (like Apple App store, Android). I want my Channels filled up, damn it - I will even settle of free useless apps. I have a 8gb SDHC and I've only filled up a small fraction of it.
*Other small things, like let auto update of time, and shit; Wii speak is cool in some cases, but headset would also be great; Change the whole Wii Menu & add options like background, themes, and fully arrangable, resizable customizable channels.

-Yeah, what the hell happened to Vitality Sensor?

-Super Mario RPG

Well, these are actually what I want. I want options. I need options. More options. What little meaning has for some may mean a huge deal for others.
I have been wanting to purchase a black Wii and a mere change in color for my Wii simply is not enough to warrant a purchase - and my gf already has the red Wii.

[What in holy blue hell happened to my post? I was only editing a typo and when I hit done I lost half my post? I tried to rewrite them but I can't remember what I had written down. Just annoying]

Yep...:) viretuel reality

But i think it make even more sense now, that we know it only require a "normal" set of screen glasses, whit motion plus, and other "all ready" on the market components.

We also know that nintendo tried VR "alike" before.. (the plastic thing standing on table)  that time the hardware was to weak, not inventet or cost to much.  Now it all fits..  The right hardware to the right price. (and nintendo told us many time last yaer, that hd not would be the nxt step)

I believe to, that nintendo will hint us in spring (like the 3ds) show it at e3, and realice it in spring 2012.

PS I don't think it will be a add-on (not any more) But i still think that nintendo will sell the next consol, as a "multi consol" meaning the glasses will be sold seperately, and games at launch will be  50 - 50   "VR" and normal "in the tv games"
