Forums - Sony - Sony can completely disable your PS3

The only part I'm having trouble with is that people using modded PS3's offline isn't the huge problem.  The huge problem to me is that people will be able to cheat online without the PS3 or PSN detecting that anything is different...that is the problem.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

They've been disabling PS3s with firmware updates for years now. One feature at a time.

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

If Sony physically disables consoles, they should be prepared for a huge judicial nightmare.

Can they somehow see which sites we've been viewing, too?  If so....uh, oh!

*runs*

1. Sony bricks consoles.

2. Outrage, suenami from America etc.

3. Sony exits console market.

4. Sony wonders what they did wrong.

So no, I don't think this means anything. Microsoft can brick your console too, but they sure as hell never tried that.

Well that's just the consequences for jacking the PS3, poeple should know.

You wanna fuck on Sony?

Pretty much.  The best thing Sony could do is maybe a ban from PSN (Microsoft does this on 360 already), but since it's a "free" service with a smaller active community it probably wouldn't carry quite the same impact as XBL bans do.... in fact it may just end up driving multiplayer bases more towards 360, especially since PS3's vaunted "stand outs" to to be mainly for the single player experiences already (GT5, Uncharted 1-2, GOW3, Valkyria, MGS4, etc, etc).  No one's going to miss HOME and they'll just play COD elsewhere...

If sony has access to the personal information stored on your ps3 and uses them, then it's becomming a matter of justice. The ps3 has a DD that is my property since I bought it. Is it written somewhere that sony can check what is on my DD without me knowing this ?

Well did you read the PSN user agreement? It could well be somewhere in there

This is very true but at least it would give Sony a slight HW boost for a while.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

"So I heard you hack'd a ps3. Is this true?"

._.

"Okay then. Where is it, we're here to disable it. O nvm, there it is." *pound pound pound*

"Tell your family and friends what happened."
