Maybe this has been mentioned already, but this goes hand in hand with that feature where you can pass information from 3DS to 3DS just by walking past someone that is carrying it, even if it is off.  By rewarding people to carry their 3DS around with them, its going to help along that other feature too.

Can you disable that kind of "feature"?

Yes.

Okay. That "even if it is off" kind of confused me. :)

I read "pedometer" at first.

So basically developers create some extras for every game and force you to walk a few steps to unlock it....

doesn't make any sense.

But paying £9.99 for that same extra content would?

Of course not. DLC that is already on the disc like alternative costumes etc. is just as bad. But not very many developers do that. Capcom most notably.

If you're talking about typical DLC like Shivering Isles, Undead Nightmare or even smaller ones like a car pack or whatever, then yes because otherwise it wouldn't have been put on the disc in the first place.

This is a cool idea but it still doesn't change the fact that the 3DS still lacks a centralized user ID that can show you your progress on the games you've completed and a good history of the things you've accomplished to compare with your friends.  A cool concept but still lacking compared to the 360's Achievements and PS3's Trophys.

I don't understand why Nintendo doesn't make a centralized account.  It seems like a basic thing in modern gaming.

No i'm just basing it off all info released so far.  If it does end up having one that is awesome and a huge positive for the system.  In fact the lack of one is the main reason I'm considering not buying one until they price drop later on.

I'm not trying to turn this into a Nintendo vs other companies thread at all because I think the 3ds looks great I just find it a bad business decision to not have a centralized ID with game tracking like the other systems currently have.  If it adds one in that is awesome news.

why would you need an online ID for a portable system when there is not free wifi all over the world yet? how would that benefit us in any way? the point of an online id is so people can search and play with friends on the fly, why the hell are you sitting there playing your 3DS at home when you can play on actual consoles or a PC? comparing progress is comparing on who has more "no life" value, how's that a good thing to compare?

are you kidding me?  Walk into the nearest college campus and tell me how many DS's you see.  Here's a hint for you, LOTS.  There's free wi-fi at all colleges and practically all over the place now days.

This isn't a debate its a fact that online play has become a HUGE part of gaming and will only become more and more prevalant over the next 5 years.  If the 3DS still lacks a good solid way to track your friends online and jump into games with them its a bad business choice.

How can you say you honestly would prefer to walk around and get imaginary coins more than having a good, solid, centralized online experience with game tracking?  Don't get me wrong the coins thing might end up being cool too but not near as important as centralized ID.

because we all goto college right? That's a piss poor arguement, come up with something more practical. It'd just be in your pocket with the lid closed as you are walking, you don't need to be playing a game.

Give me an example of that happening in this thread. I can give you my example if you want.

In this thread, before you made your first post?  Let's see it.

The OP itself.

A short response, but "no" would have been even more to the point.  Or can you point to something specific in the OP?  And before you answer, I advise taking a look at the posting history of the person who created the OP (not fwap, but the person he stole it from).

I like how some people think that everything nintendo does is great and everything its competitors do is bad.

OT: Meh, I want true trophies.

I approve of this idea if true.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

Cool idea

What a completely stupid idea.

I don't play games in order to just damn walk to make them more fun.

If I want to exercise, I'll go running Nintendo or do crunches, but stop shoving fitness down our throats.
