Forums - Nintendo - The 3DS is missing one key thing

The only people who really seem to care about achievements are PS3/360 fans. The general Nintendo audience and the expanded audience don't seem to care for them much at all so I doubt it would be worth the effort.

Probably because they don't have them. Sony fans didn't care much about achievements... until the PS3 got trophies. If Nintendo instituted "stickers" or somesuch, they'd be a huge deal.

I agree with twesterm. The 3DS was the perfect opportunity to introduce not only an achievement system, but a revamped and more robust online in general. Seems like a big missed opportunity.

Huh, that's funny because I considered myself a Nintendo fan...

And while you're correct that I don't think parents and the like won't care for achievements, kids and hardcore gamers very much do.  Nintendo already has the kids and parents hooked but they still need to gain traction with the hardcore gamers.  An achievement like system would go a very long way in that.

Although I tell myself not to bother about trophies, I certainly do. There is always a little amount of pressure that makes you want to collect every single trophy in a game, although you seriously don't want to. So I'm against an achievement system.

I mean the general Nintendo audience (or casuals, if you prefer) - Nintendo fans on here  don't really count for that. I'm not so sure if achievements alone would make 3DS a deal maker or breaker for anyone, really. And putting effort into something which will most likely not boost sales much would be rather pointless.

Nintendo not even having an account for you is one of the reasons why I don't buy games from their online stores. If they can't let me redownload my games if I need to, then I won't buy them in the first place.

Actually, you can redownload your games for free.

That would be on the same Wii though, right? Last I heard, if my Wii died, I'd have to call Nintendo and hope they would allow me to redownload it all if I got a new Wii. I don't like that it's tied to the hardware rather than a transferable account.

Anyone who thinks the achievement system is bad is just crazy. You don't have to care about them. It is just an extra. Its like Buying a game that somehow comes with a free strategy guide. You don't have to use it. But its an Extra. So might as well take it.

Either way, your right about the 3DS missing this amazing system.

it's tied to the cosole though not to you.  if you wanted to upgrade to a newer model or replace one with a impending hardware failure you are SoL and loose all of your games.  360 and ps3 have ways to transfer your info should you choose to upgrade your hardware.

Meh.. I expected something bigger for twesterm to whine about.. :P

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

But I never really do achieve a damn thing that changes a game experience through an achievement. So Screw it.

Wow, that really sucks.
