Forums - Sales - Kinect's early success is a referendum on Nintendo.

bigjon said:

The issue with Kinect is that it is an add-on. It may be a popular one, I would compare it to the WiiFit craze, Very successful moves alot of system, but it will not be in itself a game changer.

Issue with the logic, Wii Fit was a game changer. It brought us fitness games.

This could very well be a game changer, as shown with Avatar Kinect there are many more things Kinect can do that MS is just starting to show us. This could be AWESOME XD

Nintendo should have preemptively attacked Microsoft by releasing their own motion cam tech a year ago. But now that it's too late they should release one through Ubisoft with Just Dance 3 bundled with it. It wouldn't have to be as high tech as Kinect and the cheaper price would make it appealing.

Nintendo should do something fast JUST IN CASE it takes off and cuts into Wii sales it already hasn't.

Wii users are leaving the Wii for Kinect? Where's your proof here? The Will has been handily outselling the 360 through the Kinect launch to current day. Kinect isn't slowing Wii sales at all. If anything is moving people to get a HD system, its just that - people want HD quality graphics, no longer content with the Wii's offering.

Kinect is a nonfactor, for the Wii, despite its success.

Actually this is incorrect, when Kinect released Xbox360 sales were ahead of the Wii's in America and worldwide together if i remember correctly. Wii started to outsell Xbox360 again during the holidays.

Am not talking week to week, Im talking total sum. =) Personally I dont think looking at weekly sales is useful, I'm sure that most of us don't make videogame purchases on a weekly basis... but that's neither here nor there for this topic. My point is, the article is pretty much stating that MS stole Nintendo's thunder, but in reality it didn't, as the sales have shown.

When Nintendo was all fine and king and suposly unstopable in mid 2008, they went  away from doing new generation games like Donkey Kong, Wii Party, New Super Mario Bros Wii and doing more Motion Plus games and intead resorted in returning for their old failing ways, making games that despite being quality (or so said) like Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid Other M don't move hardware, and those were the same games that cause the bad sales for the N64 and GC, and were the reason the Wii struggled so much half of 2010.

If they are inteligent enough, they will focus on new Wii Motion plus games that atrack new consumers to buy the Wii. If otherwise they keep on doing Super Gamecube games then they are doomed to fall.

Above: still the best game of the year.

The Wii has fulfilled it's promise. That's why more people bought it over Kinect and X-Box through the Christmas season.

No it hasn't. There are a lot of things that still can be done with WM plus. Don't you think would be good to have a dungeon crawler MULTYPLAYER game, where one can hold a bow and arrow and shoot it with accuracy, and you help your party to fight dragons or evil hordes of zombie dinosaurs? Or use a spear, a mace, or cool things like that.

WM plus still has a lot of potential, Ninendo just needs to see it and stop focusing on making games that people don't buy Wiis for.

No you're right it hasn't slowed Wii sales as of yet and that is indeed the point. So valid point :)

Hey Beuli, unless I misunderstood it, it seems to me something is somewhat wrong with your argument in this post.  Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Other M development probably started arond the same time as DKCR and Wii Party development, so how can you say they went away from doing one type of game in order to do another when development for both types started around the same time?
