I guess I'm reading too much into things but I detect a sense of "Sour Grapes" when it comes to Mass Effect 1.  I'll drag Uncharted into this just to illustrate a point.  We have a game that was universally praised by critics and gamers alike.  we had a sequel that improved on the original in every way.  Now, while the stories in U1 and U2 aren't as closely tied together as the stories of ME1 and ME2, wouldn't you agree that the two compliment each other very well?

Now I'd rrecommend U2 to any gamer that can hold a controller.  I'd recommend that they play U1 first if it was possible.  If they couldn't play U1 for some reason, I WOULD NOT pretend that U1 was such a terrible game that it's not worth playing or that it's better not to play it at all.

With all of that said, I ask this:  Play Mass Effect 2.  I think it's one of the best gaming experiences of the year.  Don't hate on Mass Effect 1.  It's a great game, too.

SPOILERS!

The first Uncharted was a very short experience and it's faults (bullet sponges and screen tearing in the first 2 hours) doesn't make it feel like a chore to play. Mass Effect 1 is a long game and so it requires some heavy investment, the time it took me to become a Spectre was probably around the same time it took for me to finish Uncharted. With a long game, it needs to be fun to play and I found that Mass Effects combat was sub par, the frame rate was really bad, the game tore like hell, my squad AI was stupid and kept getting me killed and I was just not very happy with the overall experience.

I usually have a really high tolerance when it comes to games,, but when a few key issues like gameplay and a really bad frame rate come into play, it really hinders my experience and I'd rather not spend the next 20 hours going through all that.

I've read and heard that Mass Effect 2 fixes all these issues and it's a much more stream lined experience and that's what I wanted out of the first game. Like I mentioned earlier, I'd rather wait until I can pick the PS3 version up for around $30, because it matches up to what I want, which is a pretty full Mass Effect experience, without playing the first Mass Effect.

Fair enough.   I guess certain things bothered you more than they bothered me.  Personally, I love the ME series and I want as many people to play/enjoy the games as possible.  That's my sole agenda.  Hope you at least like ME2, Doobie.

I agree with the others,PS3 owners should play ME on PC,and then play ME2 on their PS3.

If you have a PS3,and have already played ME,then lucky you.

Hell no! If you have a gaming PC, do both on PC -- a far better experience overall, and you can use your save right through. The only reasons not to would be trophies or a desperate desire to buy everything on PS3 to the exclusion of the better gaming option (the latter of which would strike me as a bit daft).

Well I have Mass Effect 1 for 360, although to be honest, I could never find the time to play through it, I've played like, 4-5 hours of the game, have a slight understanding of the plot, although it would probably change throughout the game anyway.

I sort of lost interest in the Mass Effect games after that, since I moved from 360 to PS3, and now VERY RARELY buy 360 games, infact, I've not bought a single one in 2009 or 2010, only had them as presents, lol.

When the Mass Effect 2 demo went up on PS3 before Christmas, I thought, what the heck, I'll give it a try, see how it runs on a PS3, and it was beautiful, the Unreal Engine running perfectly on PS3, with some really silky smooth graphics and great action, I think I'll be picking it up on PS3 for sure, I don't care that I've not finished the first game, or events won't pass over, I reckon the comic will be good enough, as long as I can keep Wrex through the comic, I don't care.

Although I'll admit I had to turn the fil;m grain off, not really digging it to be honest, with my epilepsy, it sort of hurts my eyes in a weird way.

This is awkward.....uh....about Wrex........Uh....you might want to sit down for this......

I salute you, sir. An admirable agenda. I approve.

Yeah but not everyone has a good gaming PC.
PS3 owners should wait a bit for the price to go down, and then buy the PS3 version with all the DLC and upgraded game-engine.

Mass Effect is such a mess of game, that it's not even worth dragging myself through all it's technical issues and poor designs  just so I can 'truly' understand it's story. I've got it on my 360 and the game just drags, not because the world and plot isn't interesting, but because the game semi freezes just when I'm turning around and the gameplay is just so wonky.

I might buy Mass Effect 2 on the PS3, only because I'd rather play the critically acclaimed sequel, without going through the broken original, while also getting the chance to understand the plot and make the choices from the first game.

It's hard to pass up such a highly praised game and I'm willing to put my money down if it means that I won't have to go through Mass Effect 1.

Best post on the entire thread.

Hardly. For me, Mass Effect was a bit of a mess the first time I tried to play it (playing on the 360), but the story and the characters made me start over on easy. Plus the motion blur was so basic I turned it off to gain some performance (I have no idea if it makes a difference or not, but whatever. ). But playing through it on easy was a great experience.

The technical issues weren't all that bad, and I don't care much for customising my squad, so I didn't bother much with the inventory. The game lost most of its challenge, but all my frustrations went away with it, and I could just enjoy the story and the universe, which is where the game truly shines anyway. All the dialogue, the characters, the backstory, all of that is amazing in Mass Effect.

So amazing in fact that I just bought the ME2 special edition, and I will be powering through it this weekend when I can dedicate myself to it completely.

I hate to be a downer, but I highly doubt that the PS3 version is better than the PC version.

Good to hear it's not just a quick and lazy port like certain games, though.

Since when did they say that the PS3 version was better than PC? They just said the third game would be the best yet and now that the game is truly multi-platform everyone can get a taste.

You did notice that you said: 'PS3 owners should play ME on PC'? If that's the case, then one presumes an individual in such a situation has a gaming PC. If so, as my previous post suggested, why bother flitting from PC to PS3? If it will run ME1, it'll easily run ME2 which is better optimised.

Forgive me... but this is nonsense.

If you havent played mass effectg and you have both a 360 and a PS3 then the thing to do is buy ME1 and ME2 for the 360 and play both of them...

You havent played Mass Effect unless you have PLAYED both.

last i checked this is about ME2 and not ME1 ME2...

the article is saying that ME2 PS3 is bettern than ME2 x360. Did it say or mention anyting about ME1 ME2 x360 vs ME2 PS3?

i didnt think so.

so, your comment is nonsense as it is another attempt to downplay the PS3

a troll is a troll no matter how you hide it

Don't attack people for no good reasons. What he is saying is that if you own both a PS3 and a 360, playing ME1 and ME2 on the 360 will give you a better experience than just playing ME2 on the PS3, because you get the full Mass Effect experience. Having played ME1, I can only agree with him.
