Mass Effect is such a mess of game, that it's not even worth dragging myself through all it's technical issues and poor designs  just so I can 'truly' understand it's story. I've got it on my 360 and the game just drags, not because the world and plot isn't interesting, but because the game semi freezes just when I'm turning around and the gameplay is just so wonky.

I might buy Mass Effect 2 on the PS3, only because I'd rather play the critically acclaimed sequel, without going through the broken original, while also getting the chance to understand the plot and make the choices from the first game.

It's hard to pass up such a highly praised game and I'm willing to put my money down if it means that I won't have to go through Mass Effect 1.

Best post on the entire thread.

Hardly. For me, Mass Effect was a bit of a mess the first time I tried to play it (playing on the 360), but the story and the characters made me start over on easy. Plus the motion blur was so basic I turned it off to gain some performance (I have no idea if it makes a difference or not, but whatever. ). But playing through it on easy was a great experience.

The technical issues weren't all that bad, and I don't care much for customising my squad, so I didn't bother much with the inventory. The game lost most of its challenge, but all my frustrations went away with it, and I could just enjoy the story and the universe, which is where the game truly shines anyway. All the dialogue, the characters, the backstory, all of that is amazing in Mass Effect.

So amazing in fact that I just bought the ME2 special edition, and I will be powering through it this weekend when I can dedicate myself to it completely.
