Personally, the solo game I choose to play is not really related to violence/blood or difficulty. Its more about getting a mature storyline and experience. Mario gameplay is great, but the story is far from being immersive, let alone interesting.

Then you might as well watch more movies, TV shows, or read more books
. Okay, the really good ones aren't that common, but you'll get a lot more of those than out of a typical story heavy game. Most game developers are simply not practiced or skilled in storytelling or writing (some exceptions though). Plus those aren't really mature stories for the most part, but that's for another thread.

That's an honest recommendation.

Or,or he can play a game that has a good gameplay AND good story...

LOL, at least one person did understand my point.

There aren't that many. I would put Nippon Ichi's games on about the top teir of video game storytelling, even if they are just well above average with other media. Part of their charm is that they manage to sneak in some deep themes in their lightheartedness, while a lot of "mature" games come across as hamfisted and sloppy when they try to focus on those themes.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Like Super Mario Bros. 3 for example.

Dont test me today.

He's not testing you. The story inSuper Mario Bros. 3 is very touching. Is it real? Or a stage? What's with all the suits? Genocide, flying and Japanese mythology is included in it all

Princess gets kidnapped. Go fetch

The story was quite good 16 years ago... you know, when I was 10 years old.

It's still good today. The perfect story for a video game.

No it isnt. You know it isnt

What he means is that games shouldn't have story at all, just a cause.

Above: still the best game of the year.

I know that it is perfect, because if it wasn't, Nintendo wouldn't have been able to keep using it for 30 years and still get away with it.

It is the perfect story for the audience their aiming at.

Exactly: Gamers.

I kind of think icy isn't looking for a game but for an all-in-one entertainment pack. The problem is those won't be truly great at any of those things.

There are many involving RPGs out there. A couple of action games too. Im not looking for perfection either. Also, im all for multiplayer party games. NSMB is quite good in this regard.

Okay, forgot about RPGs there, although their stories tend to be okay on average, since the flow of playing doesn't really lead to a tight, coherent plot.

As a whole, I dont think thats true. In any case, I enjoy gameplay too, so average story is better then bad or no story. Basicaly, the point was, if some dont like Mario it isnt necessarily because theres no blood/violence. Beside, you can take note that I respect other gamer that do not care for a story or human like being interactions.
