Where do you go to find out more about a game?

GameSpot 18 10.06%

IGN 36 20.11%

GameTrailers 33 18.44%

VGChartz / gamrReview 30 16.76%

Google Search 23 12.85%

Other (specify) 39 21.79%

Total:179

Although I don't post often, NEOGAF is the place i go to to get info on gaming period. Then I use gametrailers for videos and reviews.

Wikipedia, because it's faster to find the information I'm looking for. I don't care about hype or previews on most game news sites - I want to see the platform, release date, studio, key staff and a synopsis of plot and gameplay within 10s of the page loading.

Can someone tell me whats so special about Neogaf?

Kotaku & Vgcharts

But i use IGN & GameTrailers from time to time

Mostly GameTrailers, YouTube and Wikipedia. Sometimes IGN, although I hate that site.

I voted "Other". My first point of call will be the game's official site for screenshots, trailers and summary (if it has one), followed by the Wikipedia page for a less biased summary.

I'll follow that up with a visit to IGN to read the first impressions, before coming to gamrConnect to discuss it once I've learned a fair bit.

Why not VGC for these? Well:

  • We don't have any trailers at all, at the moment.
  • Our screenshots aren't very extensive and take a while to go up.
  • The summary is generally lifted from the official website.
  • We don't often have first impressions. This is something which could change - a news story when a big game is announced, talking about earlier games in the series / from the same developer, and discussing the announcement and hopes for the game?

When it comes to disscussing games, there is no better place. They get the actual developers to post sometimes.

Representatives from a whole bunch of game developers and generally the most intelligent people you will encounter on the internet (if a little paranoid and closed-minded on the topic of sales).

But shhh, ioi's in the thread

But how do you even join them since they require a paid email address....do those even exist?  I mean who would pay for an email account?

Actually answer on my wall because I don't want to derail ioi's thread.
