Why, that is the most unbiased poll I've ever seen!

...honestly though? To loosen up. At least I do. Apparently I'm really funny and friendly when I'm tipsy, that's what people say.

NO! You surely are annoying and unsuferable. That's what alcohool does to you, haven't you heard?

Thanks for the history lesson, but you're alienating from my original point of alcohol consumption becoming widespread in this society. I took the liberty of finding some sources for you that claim alcohol consumption in fact is increasing. I really don't get why you're arguing against this, because it is clearly obvious that people are drinking more alcohol now and even at younger ages. There are many factors, but this increase in alcohol consumption in the west is also affecting countries in the east that are developing. Like I said earlier, alcohol consumption is increasing in other nations due to easier access to it. However, since the focus of my point is on western nations, I took the liberty of doing a simple google search and finding many studies that indicate alcohol consumption is increasing. You can argue all you want, but it is fairly evident within society that consumption is increasing, especially due to population growth and economical issues.

Binge drinking increasing among individuals in the US:

Take these as you will, but it is clear in my mind that alcohol consumption, and the peer pressures associated with it are on a rise.

EDIT: Not to mention, media influences are also factors in rising alcohol consumption. Also, the strength of the industry now also plays a big role.

I believe he meant historically, or on a longer-term scale. It may be on a rise compared to a few decades ago, but these levels (and higher) are nothing new, so (even if you grant it as being a problem) it's no a "new problem of this society".

And alcohool sells because it's great :P

Really, great word of mouth. Ads are only useful to try and make you use this alcohoolic product isntead of another. Granted peer pressure exists but most people who drink (specially after a certain, not too old, age) do so because they want, not because of pressure to do it. They may even have started for that reason, but so what.

I realise it sucks when everyone wants to do something you don't, but it's your problem, as in not their fault (and yeah, I realise you know that). You're the one "breaking the protocol". Then again I know quite a few people who manage to hang out sober with a bunch of people who are drinking. I have done this myself a couple times because of medicine. Also, it's not like everyone gets shit-faced every time they drink, it's mostly the other way around, specially girls and people in general in more public spaces and, again, slightly older people. It shouldn't be a problem for you to "go out and just dance" just cause most other people are drinking. And there are actually lots of places where most people are drinking but getting smashed is actually frawned upon.

The way I see it you shouldn't have much of a problem hanging out unless you're insecure, part of a very specific group, as in always drinking to the point of passing out or actually cutting you out for not drinking, or if you just can't stand people when they drink even it's only a little. And most of these problems should be alleviated a lot with time, and I'm not even talking about many years.

EDIT: Oh, and being the only sober guy in the place is a great way to get some action :D

Leaving aside the fact that your third source contradicts the point you seem to be trying to make...

Alcohol consumption is increasing relative to what? A few decades ago? The 20th century was possibly the most teetotal in Western history.

We're reverting to normality after an unusually dry period. That's all.

When Stalin rose to power, he did so via a democratic process. He rigged elections and appointed his cronies in important places to stack votes in his favour. The major opposition party (which initially had a majority), ended up boycotting elections on the basis that they were rigged. This of course made it easier for Stalin to rise to power.

However, I do not learn from history, and I repeat mistakes. I refuse to vote in this poll, because it is quite simply, bad. It is a poll made to prove a point, not to find out an opinion.

Mostly for the wonderful flavours. I'm especially fond of wines, of which my country makes some of the best (well in some varieties, we have almost without doubt the best Sauvignon Blanc). Though there is nothing to beat a cold beer on a hot day, and pretty much nothing to beat a single malt Scotch full stop.

I do however do get tipsy or drunk on occasion. So long as you don't take it to an extreme (vomiting/passing out for example) it can be a very enjoyable and social experience.

However I must say alcohol addiction is a godawful thing and can really destroy a person.

Wow this op is the most close-minded, childish and missinformed thing I have read in a while. I am guessing the guy is american and thinks that the US of A = the world. I love wine especially red. I am half italian and in italy, it is in the culture to drink wine and simply enjoy the taste. There is nothing more awesome than having a beautifull bottle of wine with an italian salid or sea food dish. I also enjoy a nice ten year old wiskey with the boys when we get out of the lab.  But hey, I am from an upper middle class family so perhaps it is just my upbringing where I was taught to enjoy  alchohol and wine for what it really is.

Your post screamed insecurity and misinformation. I felt insulted reading your post. Get some class and go see the world bro.

Hey...ugly people need sex too, ya know.

It helps me get laid, by lowering my standards and those of people around me. That and weed can be pretty expensive.

May I ask what you consider moderate amounts?  I know I've heard 1 a day for woman and 2 a day for men can be very beneficial towards one's health.  But please don't tell me you mean any more than that, because my mom has 2-4 drinks on a majority of nights, and I consider her an alcoholic.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

The whole "roughly one pints of beer a day" or equivalent comes from British doctors pulling extremely conservative figures out of their arse when pressed by the government.

2 or 4 drinks per night is not alcoholic unless she has a shockingly low tolerance. Grow up.
