Well, DQX might have something to say about that.

DQX has an established fanbase, and a very loyal one. This is a new IP, totally different.
Plus it will be hard for DQX to beat the best selling home console DQ.

NO it is a new IP and it is on the Wii.

No, not with the first game. And even then, it needs to prove it's far superior compared to Final Fantasy. And finally, I think if it is to be the best-selling JRPG, it must be released on platforms other than Wii or some future console favored mainly by casual gamers. That is, unless somehow it becomes the biggest phenomenon after Pokemon and breaks records no matter what and I don't think anyone would really expect that.

I'd say, probably not.  Maybe if it was a part series that people knew about, it would do better. Hitting even 1 million is hard for most console JRPGS.

The Last Story may end up surprising a lot of people.

Not with just this game... it's a new IP, whereas FF is an established franshise that has many fans

It could happen one day if:
- The Last Story proves itself as series of high enough quality
- The series gets a big marketing push from Nintendo
- FF games continue to decline in quality

I am going to say no. Do not expect amazing sales from the best games this gen. The Last Story will probably be on the top JRPG's of the gen (and most likely better than FFXIII with Sakaguchi behind it) but it will go unnoticed compared. It will sell well enough to break even though.
