Forums - Nintendo - Miyamoto to his rivals: Go and find something new

Ssliasil said:

well if that wasnt the biggest load of crap i have ever read...

Nintendo and Miyamoto telling the competition, especially Sony to do something new...

HOW MANY MARIO GAMES AND ZELDA CLONES ARE YOU GOING TO MAKE?!

Nothing on the Wii is worth anything except those two franchises, and they know that...so they keep plowing out the sequals and THEY are talking about "Doing something new".

Nintendo is the lease innovative company, sure they brought Motion Controls, but sony did that first with the Eyetoy.

They say "Do something new" Well the gaming industry is getting tired of new Gimmicks, 3D and talking to camera's like Kinect and PS Eye is enough, beyond this is full body 3d Holographic interactivity, which in esscence is completely impractical outside specifically built Arcade buildings.

If anything it should be Nintendo doing something new, followed by Microsoft.

Sony is the only company this generation thats going beyond what makes money and sponsoring the new guys on the block-- The biggest of which was Media Molecule and Little Big Planet the Microsoft turned down and refused to change the XBL servers for the better in order to allow a game like LBP to actually exist...theres a reason why 99% of all MMO's announced for XBox get canceled a year later- Microsoft doesnt want to take the chance of spending money to better thier servers to allow optimized conditions for those types of games.

grrrr

my grammar sucks but  you get the point.

xD. How exactly does 1 Zelda game so far (2 if you count Link's Crossbow Training, which was "new") on the Wii count as too much Zelda? And enlighten me as to which games are Nintendo-made Zelda clones. Also, almost all Mario games this generation are a diferent experience. Just because they revolve around the same character and universe doesn't mean that the experience in those games is anywhere close to being the same.

And honestly, Nintendo hasn't spewed out sequels at all as far as most of their successful franchises go; Mario Kart, once on each console, NSMB, once on each console, Nintendogs, once on DS... If they were gonna spew out sequels, they would have made NSMBW2 instead of DKCR. Whilst Wii Fit Plus and Wii Sports Resort do exist, the "Wii" franchise continues to get new titles such as Wii Party.

Oh, and are you kidding me? Tons of stuff is "worth anything" on Wii other than Mario and Zelda. Take the Wii series for example.

And I really can't beleve you're bringing up the Eyetoy. Sony barely supported it or tried to get support for it and didn't push the peripheral at all. If they can't support the innovation well, they don't deserve the credit for it. It's like saying "Hey, I thought of that idea before you trademarked it. I should get the credit for it!"

And the last part is seriously laughable. Pretty much every title in the Wii series (bar WSR/WFP) is as innovative as LBP, if not more. Add on to that the innovation of Nintendogs and Brain Age, and Sony doesn't even compare. Especially since I count "copy the competitor whose product is still selling and try to compete by releasing clones of their games" as -10 points for innovation, :P.

lol@ whinny nintendo hate from supposed nintendo fans you can't remember Mii's (and Wii Sports, Resort, Fit and Music) or Nintendogs as IPs that Miyamoto created since Pikmin. Or how quickly we forget that Miyamoto was greatly responsible for the Wii Remote, Nunchuck and Wii Motion Plus that Sony and Microsoft so quickly tried to copy which is what Miyamoto is really talking about as previously pointed out by Milkeyjoe.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

"Over half complete"

Nintendo has said things like this in the past and released a game less than 3 months later. I'd take the 50% assumption with a grain of salt.

Oh yeah, Mario Kart sold 300k this week in EMEAA after nearly 3 years homie!

Deeper Zelda and more Wii games coming? Yes please.

Yeah but i'd suspect a zelda game wouldnt fall for that category. Zelda games tend to have longer developing times

Yep..... or something. Plus Zelda is half complete

“I don't think the Wii is something that people need to graduate from. Of course, I am happy that motion is fashionable now. But when we make games, we are not trying to produce trendy products. It needs to be an experience that's meaningful, and the motion control needs to add something. So our new Zelda game takes motion control and adds something to the game to make you feel like you're part of the adventure. I think our rivals need to find what it is they have to offer that’s new." - Shigeru Miyamoto

- The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is “over half complete”

- “What we are focused on is creating gameplay mechanics so the gameplay experience feels very dense. In fact, the overall experience is going to feel more dense. We hope that people will want to go back and replay the game once they finish it”.
- “On the software side we are seeing stable sales, and Mario Kart is still selling at a steady pace. There's still a lot of games we can create for it, and our audience is expanding. Nintendo doesn't think so much about competition as about creating new video game experiences, trying to do things differently. The other thing we focus on is trying to deliver our interactive entertainment to as broad an audience as possible."

As much as I love you Miyamoto, Nintendo did create something that was trendy and fashionable. Sony and Microsoft saw it as a sales incentive to pick up the value of their brand a not only added motion controls but expanded the idea of the motion control area of gaming. Nintendo needs to understand that with Microsoft and Sony the tech battle is a lost one ( based on their mentality), but where creativity is concerned they'll always win. Imho Nintendo is a brand to graduate from. I graduated from it and millions of others are. I cannot speak for everyone though so meh.

I agree with Miyamoto.

It's great to see Motion become the new standard but neither Sony nor MS have done anything really new with their tech to differeniate themselves from being Wii clones.

If Kinect had come out with Milo - That would have been new.   No, it comes out with minigames, fitness titles, dance titles and basically all stuff that's already been done on Wii.    Not exactly, of course, but in essence.  Kinectimals is their most original offering but seems to still amount to minigames.

Move - I have some high hopes for because the tech is great but they haven't shown anything beyond a lot of Wii-ish stuff either.    Sorcery (of whatever it's called) could be good but so far Zelda looks like the best use of motion we've seen yet.

I wish both companies had highlined games that offered an entirely new experience never seen before, that their tech made possible.   But not so far.   So far it's pretty much just WiiHD.

You and me both, Shiggy.  Please don't put in an hour-long tutorial this time, eh?  And while I get that part of it was showing us how to beat the final boss, I'm not going to remember that 50 hours later..

HOLY CRAP!!!

I....never realized that. LOL that just blew my mind a little.

Wait there was an hour long tutorial in Twilight Princess?  Why don't I remember this?

Beats me, since I'm unable to forget.  It kills my enthusiasm to replay the game.

Sony created motion gaming before Nintendo and Microsoft. Contrary to Miyamoto's belief the Wii is a trend which expanded upon created newer trends. Sony has the best of both worlds and the Kinect has the most powerful scanner recognition system.
