Weak, the psp2 will have 2x that space!

And manditory installs?

PSP2, it only does everything :)

I predict a later literation of psp2 to feature 3D

hey danny, I love ur sig! I don't doubt PSP2 will have more space. It will have higher graphics than 3DS and probably overall better specs. but it will probably sell less compared to the 3DS than the PSP did compared to the DS. Unless they have some suprise up their sleeve besides it being a phone.

OT, I love the fact that the 3DS is at least as powerful as the wii. Where's my Budokai Tenkaichi Tag Team???

Oh trying to diss the PSP2 even before its official announcement? Come on bring it, let's fight, right here right now!

The PSP2 will outsell the 3DS 2 to one ratio. Nobody is going to buy the gimicy 3D. People want HD like graphics with a machine that cost over a gizzilion dollars. They want a system that can be used as a cell phone. BURN!!!

hehehe joking. NINTENDO 3DS FTW!

And thanks. I like my sigh too.

I hope it lives up to the expectations and have a wildly big success. Nintendo invested so much effort into that little handheld...

I think the 1GB minimum is more provoking actually.  For previous Nintendo console min/max mask-ROM sizes that were/are produced...

  • NES:  8K to 1.5MB (1983-1995) 192x increase
  • SNES: 256K to 6MB (1990-2000) 24x increase
  • N64: 4MB to 64MB (1996-2002) 16x increase
  • GB/C: 128K to 8MB (1989-2002) 64x increase
  • GBA: 4MB to 32MB (2001-2008) 8x increase
  • DS/i: 8MB to 512MB (2004-current) 64x increase
  • 3DS: 1GB to ??? (2011-???)
...if 3DS follows the same sort of ROM increase as DS did, we'll have 3DS cards weighing in at 64GB by the time the system's done.  That's larger than a double sided Blu-ray!

but now whats all that storage for is the question.

Copy protection, mandatory system updates...

Also allows for less need for texture and audio compression, higher resolution textures, high end voice overs and more.

Just because you have a lot of space doesn't mean you can go crazy with large textures.  You may have the space to make everything a 1024x1024 or 2048x2048 but even on current consoles those take A LOT of memory.

On a handheld you probably will rarely need to go over 512x512 and even 256x256 will still be fine and both of those take very little space and memory.

Certainly the rest of the system has to be capable of handling that just as it goes with any of the aspects I listed.   But if you are streaming extures, the RAM requirements aren't as high.  You're right that not all games will need 1024 much less 2048 resolution textures but in some cases or game styles it could really make the details shine.   And with the 3D enabled, having that extra texture detail helps.   Look at the texture resolution difference in the 2 Capcom RE titles versus the ground textures in the MGS demo

Aww miss the good old days without any loadingtimes :)

That is EXACTLY why I loved the N64 over the Playstation back in those times.  NO LOADING TIME!  The first time I sat through that with someone on their Playstation I was thinking "What the hell?!?"  It was just a shock to see that after so much time with carts.

Consoles owned: NES, N64, PS1, GC, PS2, Wii.
