Anyone wondering if Nintendo is considering that for their next system?

I'd personally love for Nintendo to go back to solid state, but it's not happening next gen.  They'll have Panasonic deliver a customized Blu-ray solution, with Wii DVD backward compatibility, and still no movie playback. ;)

Nah.

2.5 times the power of 360/PS3.

Solid state game format.

20GB internal storage.

No backwards compatibility.

No moving parts.

$150 US launch price.

Get ready for the truth...

1.5x PS3/360 in real world performance (though the raw specs may undersell this).  Only 512MB RAM.

Blu-ray disc format. No movie playback (lol).

8GB flash drive (expandable via SD).

Full Wii controller/software backwards compatibility.  Transition path for Virtual Console/some WiiWare.  No GC controller/software compatibility (get ready for 1500 point downloads on VC and a $20 "GameCube Classic Controller").

More moving parts than your grandma.

$299 US launch price.

You leave my grandma out of this

(I expect Gamecube VC to be 1000 points, all other systems moved down one pricing tier)

Your grandma has less memory than 3DS, nevermind Wii 2. :P

Also, Nintendo lowering Virtual Console prices?  MUHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!  I hope you're ready to pay 500 points for Super Mario Land in March...

We'll see who's right, Jarrod.

We'll see.

Wierd thing is the 3DO could actually be plausible, the system was actually a mild success in Japan,

Shame Jaguar games will never hit anything as there are about a half dozen exclusives that are really worth playing (Iron Soldier, Iron Soldier 2 (best game on the console), Battlemorph, Tempest 2k, Missile Command 3d, AvP, Power Drive Rally, Super Burnout) plus a few idioticly expensive later releases that would be really nice (Skyhammer, Battlesphere (online play for up to 32 players!)) and their are a few hilariously bad games, Club Drive, Kasumi Ninja (The fighter with the Scott that shoots fireballs by lifting his kilt), Fight for life

I HAVE A DOUBLE DRAGON CAB IN MY KITCHEN!!!!!!

NOW A PUNISHER CAB!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lots of cutscenes FTW!

How about:

2 times the power 2 times the efficiency of compute resources.

Solid state game format with 2 slots, one for rewriteable cards for kiosk distribution and one for ROMs.

1GB / 8Gb RAM, 2Gb chips will be cheap by then.

Edit: 16GB flash, it doesn't make sense if its 20 unless they preallocate a larger chip for redundancy or OS functions.

25W TDP.

Vapour chamber cooling for CPU/GPU combo.

$249 US launch price.

Tease.

Squilliam's idea is also acceptable.
