So this week about 3 million pieces of software were given away with the purchase of a Wii. I post this because it really skews the software numbers.

I hope you are not counting ALL NSMB and Mario Kart numbers as bundled games. You do know that many people buy those games on their own right? And PS3 and Xbox 360 have all sorts of software bundles, so yeah..

Kinect is just huge...

Bundle with Adventures could do close to 1 million next week... 5.5m by year end.

Kinect Sports will get close to 2.0m by year end.

Dance central will come close or pass 1.0m.

Kinectimal will pass 0.5m.

All of this will have happened in just 8 weeks.

Thats 10m software units attributable to Kinect by year end.

Kinect hardware is indeed very strong, but the software is not. You could say software sales are good nothing more. Combined Kinect software (Kinect Adventures excluded) only sold 3,093,193 units in 6 weeks during the holidays. That's not impressive at all, just ok. I'm afraid Kinect software will have a rough struggle in the slow weeks after the holidays.

So in 6 weeks 4 million Kinects have been sold and an additional 3 million units of software were also sold.  Sounds pretty impressive to me.  It isnt like you dont have a piece of software when you purchase a Kinect. You do either need to spend $150 on a standalone sensor or $300 minimum for a console bundle.  How many of those 4 million are wrapped and sitting under a Christmas tree and additional software will be purchased after Christmas and into next year.

Exactly...

Want to see the top 5 selling Wii games after 6 weeks on 30th december? (even better period for sales)

Wii Sports 2.5m (bundled)

Zelda: 1.8m

Wii Play: 778k (bundled with the extra controller)

Red Steel: 288k

Rayman RR: 226k

not very impressive that... doesnt look like that console and its software is going anywhere does it... ?

My favorite is that Metallicube keeps insisting it's Halo/Call of Duty/Slim that're why the 360 keeps selling so well. Of course, if you point out that Kinect Sports, an unbundled game, outsold Halo this week, he will promptly ignore your post, as he did mine in the Americas thread. Rather comical, but I expect nothing when it comes to trying to logically debate anybody on this site.

So you honestly think the mega hits Black Ops and Halo are not moving the majority of those consoles? 360 sales skyrocketed long before Kinect, and the reason was the much bigger value slim model and the mega hits I just mentioned.

I promise you most people are not spending $300 for a motion camera and Kinect Adventures.

You Kinect peoples are gonna be in for a rude wake up call come early next year me thinks..

I agree that it doesn't make much sense to downplay Kinect because of the holidays (which is when most platforms launch), but KillerMan does have a legitimate point. CGI did say how it "gives a good indication of where GT5 should be headed," but it's important to keep in mind that the holidays are inflating the sales quite a bit.

Of course, not saying that GT5's sales are bad (they're high as I expected), just that a direct comparison between GT5 and GT4's weekly sales isn't a fair one.

I guess it's unfair because of the different install bases for each game's release too. There is no perfect & direct comparison to any game sequel but to slight GT5's success because of it is unfair.

The main point is, you can't directly compare launches of 2 games (particularly week-on-week) when one comes out during the holiday season, and the other does not. That's it - nobody said GT5 wasn't doing well.

You just know That Regis has a permanent smile in his face during the holidays.

Why would two games, one of which has had five prequels release on the console, and the other of which is selling just below Kinect Sports be the only reason sales or so high? For someone who's so preachy about software, you consistently have ignored Kinect Sports still selling more than Halo did this week to the point where it becomes almost pointless to debate you because you have nothing to refute facts with and ignore them whenever you see fit.

But hey, I'll take a stab at this one more time...

If Halo is having such a profound effect on 360 sales right now, why isn't the same true for Kinect Sports (an unbundled game), which sold more this week?

It's a pretty straight forward question, and one I'd like you to answer without some baseless promise premised on the fact that you can't comprehend that Kinect might be driving console sales.

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

US and EMEAA Wii sales multiplied by 2.  MS has only 1 official bundle now and that comes with Forza and Alan Wake (Alan Wake isnt counted because it is download).  Forza 3 had 192K units sold/given away.  Dont think there is an official Sony bundle that includes a game at no additional cost. I didnt count Wii Play or Wii Fit which I understand has some sort of bundle in EMEAA.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Wii HW > X360 PS3 HW

Wii SW > X360 PS3 SW

NSMB Wii is now > GTA:SA making the whole top 16 best selling games of all time owned by Nintendo

And next week SSBB is reaching 10M.

Great!

its funny the psps being hugely adjusted up and is still massively undertracked and nobodys noticed
