Forums - Nintendo Discussion - IGN article shows Nintendo is the king of re-releases!

Blah blah blah.. Nintendo keeps releasing the same games over and over because people keep BUYING their same games over and over. And they are obviously buying them over and over because they are really good.

Anyway, when is Nintendo going to re-release Super Mario Sunshine? I mean It's the only Mario game i didn't beat.

I'm happy to get a second/third/fourth/etc. to play and beat (finally) these games that I missed.

And proud member of the Mega Mario Movement!

I have no problem buying remakes haha.  Sometimes the remakes or simple ports are better than the new stuff coming out haha.  I mean I would love if MS remade Halo 1/2 for me or Bioware put out a KOTOR/Jade Empire HD collection on the 360.  Or Sony kept up with the HD collection remakes.  As long as the new games and continuations in series keep coming, I'm happy to relive the good old days.

But those that played them have to wait long for something new

Perhaps on the 3DS.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

When it comes to gaming, there isn't much new under the sun.  They can either wait for a re-release of a classic game, or wait for a thinly-veiled rehash of that same classic game.  If we're lucky, it's a thinly veiled mish-mash of two classic games!  Those are pretty rare, though. :-/

What a stupid article.  Sony or MS would be right up there with Nintendo if they had franchises with such universal appeal that lasted as long.  Everybody else does.  Look at Mega Man, Sonic, Final Fantasy, Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Tetris, Pac-Man, or any other franchise that has stayed successful for more than a decade.  God of War only had 2 games before it got an HD Collection.  Maybe in a couple years we'll see a God of War Super Collection with all 3 console games as well as the handheld games all in one package with some other bonus content.  I'm sure we'll see some sort of Halo Collection in a while too.  There's already a rumor that they're remaking the original Halo with a facelift and today's online multiplayer stuff.

To single out Nintendo is really just to point out that they're the oldest and most successful gaming company still around.  If they have a bigger catalogue of games, they're going to flex it more.  Besides, the team that ported all the old 2-D Mario games to the GBA did that for practice, and then made New Super Mario Bros.  I think it worked out pretty well.

Okay skimmed through the whole article, and it's worse than I thought.  He starts complaining about the Famicom originals that got re-released on the GBA, and he includes all the games that weren't made by Nintendo, like Castlevania, Bomberman, Pac-Man, and Xevious.

Then he somehow calls Twilight Princess a remake of a GameCube game, that came out before the GameCube version!
