The recent action-adventure games are "Too hard"?

 

They have actually been quite the opposite.

I would say that they are at a nice level now, the only ones that are annoying are those which are a little unfair, like the CoD Veteran modes, where you can be killed by 16 grenades at once (well that was mainly WaW). 

I do find there are some games which are frustratingly hard, but then in most cases you can just turn the difficulty down, simples!

DKCR and NSMBWii (which I thought was pretty easy) allow you to skip over a certain segment if it's too difficult so you can enjoy the rest of the game. Most action-adventures don't do this, and while I do like a good challenge, being forced to repeat a segment several times over to the point where it's not fun anymore is just...not fun.



I would imagine something was lost in translation here. Generally when Nintendo's talking about "too hard" they usually mean "too complex"

It makes more sense after reading the full paragraph:

I'm not that good at action games (depends on the game though) but I do feel that action games used to be more difficult in the 8-bit and 16-bit days than now.

That said, the action games nowadays are more complex (just not more difficult). Something like a Wolfenstein 3D or Doom for example is a lot more primitive than Halo: Reach or Gears of War 2. But personally I prefer the simplicity of those old 17-18 year old old-school shooters than modern "cover" shooters.
