I wouldn't say it saved Nintendo as they weren't actually in any danger of going anywhere. But I would say they built Nintendo. Nintendo would not be the company it is today if Pokemon hadn't wraked in that profit.

As for it being a fad, when I have kids they will be playing Pokemon building with Lego and if I have a daughter she will be playing with Barbie. These aren't fads their timeless classics we will grow old and all three will be there.
