If this or cloning was ever extended to humans, it would make the abortion debate in the United States look like one giant circle with pro-lifers and pro-choicers holding hands and singing Kumbaya. It is one thing to disagree on where life begins vs. whether individuals should be mandated to do with their own body according to what their community places in law, but it is a whole 'nother gigantic beast when we are talking about natural reproduction vs. unnatural reproduction.

You will not find many who agree that mankind should be playing God when it comes to the creation of human life via a syringe and test tube. Even if you do, they are a fringe minority whose values and political beliefs are not reflective of the moderate majority of most societies.

It's the future. Deny it all you want, but that's what's gonna happen. It's a change that's unavoidable.

Obviously there are connections that can hardly happen between non-related parents/children:

- a genetic connection.

- in the case of most mothers/fathers, an emotional bond (i.e. connection) that starts forming as soon as the mother gets pregnant. The baby can hear the parents' voices, the parents can feel the baby's movements and sometimes see the baby in medical exams, etc etc...

- the simple idea of "possession" ("we made this baby and it's ours"). Consciously or subconsciously, I find it hard to argue that this connection doesn't exist in the minds of most parents.

I don't understand why you would deny all these obvious connections and attribute everything to cultural indoctrination.

I don't agree with the genetic "connection". It doesn't create any type of bond between people, other than them sharing the same genes. As for the other ones that you mentioned, they're all psyhological. You'll also develop a bond with a child who's not your biological child, if you raise it since it's a baby, and the child will develop a bond with you also.

And take a look at the cases of children switched at birth. The parents develop a connection to the children they raised, thinking that they were their own, even though they actually weren't. Same thing happens with the kids. It's all psychological and has nothing to do with the genes.

Nintendo could u please just take my money and give me back my 3DS?!

This is very nice to hear. I am 100% behind any kind of since in the reproduction, and advancement of human kind.

I truly believe everything we can do to make mankind stronger and more advanced is the right thing. All of the well it could destroy mankind nonsense gets on my nerves. Sure, this advancement, and many others could potentially harm mankind in the future, but its a risk worth taking. The alternative is do nothing with our knowledge, and become an obsolete life form.

On the ethics and religious front.

Ethics - We will never save everyone, and everything from dieing. There is more berth and death in the world every day then can even be fathomed by our minds. Like it or not, things are being born, and dieing in, out, and around you always. Every breath your take, every sip you drink, and every bite you eat is a mixture of life and death.

No one cell is going to change mankind. There will never be one person to unit us all, no entertainer is so important we could not go on if they had never been born.

Religious -  No one knows what is going on in this          that we exist in.  All anyone has to do is live as they see fit. If they are killers, thats fine, but people will stop them. Is that right? How in the world do any of us know. Some people's instincts say stop them, kill them back, others say population has to control itself somehow. Is there a god? Maybe? No one knows for sure. If there is, does he care what we do? Again, no one knows if there is a god in any form, let alone one that cares what humans do. If there is a god, and someone does not believe in him, but is the best person that ever walked the planet from a societal point of view, should he be condemned or sent to peace?

This has turned into a blog, but what they heck. I just have to say, live the way you feel comfortable. Standards, Social point of views, rules, religion, non of it means anything. If your heart tells you to do something, do it. You only have one life. Live it they way you want to live. If you have to pay an eternity for it, so be it. If you really have a desire to do something, against a set of rules, here today, do you really believe that will change if you avoid it for the next 60 years and go to heaven? Would you want to be release of that burden? If some how you get fixed of your "evil" feelings, would you still be you?

Live. Experiment. Explore. Adventure.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

Of course it's psychological since we're talking about emotions, but that doesn't mean it's cultural indoctrination.

What people feel is often determined by culture.

This is just great. In the next thousand years we're gunna have a new generation of kids that are all grey with gay parents.

Thats a crime against nature IMO

The people who disagree with these kinds of experiments because they think "humans are playing God" are the same people who hold back humanity. These are the people who shut the world up in the Middle Ages. I'm not even considering ethical issues at this point yet (which I agree are many and which I agree with).

Let's assume for a moment that God exists and that he mostly cares about our acts. If God gave us the power to reproduce ourselves, and gave us the power to think and solve problems much better than the average animal, he would expect us to one day come up with this kind of reproduction. It's a sign of human advancement as a race. If you disagree with this, then stop using the computers with which you're reading this because God for sure didn't make those.

***

Ethically, however, there are too many issues to reproduce this science concerning human health and the health of the cloned beings derived from the experiments. In countries where ethical laws are non-existent or hardly enforced, it's not hard to imagine a fringe group of scientists already trying to overcome these problems. Assume now that this is not the case and that the ethical barriers exist everywhere. Then I would only agree with these experiments when there's scientific proof that the experiments would produce a healthy clone.

Now, many would argue that that would be extremely difficult or not possible at all without having some trial and error. I honestly don't know the methods in the minds of the researchers behind this, but the poster claiming to be one could post on that issue. If that were true, the fringe scientists mentioned in the earlier paragraph would come back into play and would one day provide a moderately safe method of cloning through potentially unethical experiments. The methods with which they'd do this would be very wrong, however there's nothing anyone could do about it.

So, in the end of the day, this will happen, like it or not.

Why? It's amazing and very useful for mankind.

How is it useful to anyone except the gay couple themselves?

If there's a plague that wipes ouy all the women (it could happen), humanity will not be doomed!!!
