Wouldn't that be pretty  expensive too?

No , PS3 specs come very cheap now, they're old and outdated.

You're talking full size parts, not miniaturized mobile parts.  These are also NOT the PS3 parts, they simply have the capabilities of matching early PS3 titles.

The smaller they are, the more expensive they become.  Also, since these are new parts, they will follow the same manufacturing curve starting at a high price and taking many revisions to get cheaper.

With what is rumored to come with this device, $600 is actually sounding like a possiblity.  Most smart phones without a plan cost around that much and are no where near as powerful as what this claims to be.

Oh, that would be incredibly nice.

But as many already mentioned, I fear that its' price could be very high.

Anyway, let's wait for the official reveal.

2012 - Top 3 [so far]

                                                                             #1                                       #2                                      #3

The one thing I would want to know is what kind of battery life that device is going to have and how much all that technology is going to cost. Anyway theres been enough hype so I'll chalk the graphics claim down to "will believe when I see it"

Tease.

If that's the case I see a Slimmer PS3 at a cheaper price hitting the market sometime in 2011.

It will cost no more than an iPod Touch. Mark this space if you disagree.

As for having visuals that "rival" the PS3, lower resolution output aside, which requires fewer resources in terms of GPU/CPU processing speed and VRAM/RAM to achieve similar results, it's doubtful unless you consider a 960x640 output (likely the max the PSP2 will see at best) an apples to apples comparison.

Of course if SCE manages to source or design a 3.5-4" 1280x720 display, I'll be the last one to complain.

As a handheld, it still has to be passively cooled, and in all likelihood, won't even have passive heatsink integrated into the design.

Best comparison would be the iPod Touch 4G in terms of hardware, which itself is capable of some pretty impressive visuals in games.

But if engineers had the capability to actually shoehorn the processing capability of a PS3 into a pocket computer, SCE would turn the current PS3 into a console the size of a paperback book and save big on production, shipping and warehouse costs.

Guys.

Res is going to be small so its easier to have better graphics on small screen, plus having 1 GB of ram is no big deal nowadays, and also the PS3's "graphical power" GPU specs are old very old now they can be minitured, processing however is a different story, but even that can be cheap not exactly "TEH CELL!" but something similar for mobiles.

the problem now is overheating and battery life, not how expensive it is, of course knowing sony its going to be expensive but not because of "Teh graphix" but because of brand name.

Assuming IGN's info is accurate...

I fear for the battery life.

...I agree with this.

Okay, if this is true, it shows us that Sony has learned NOTHING from this gen. I predict that by the 9th generation, Sony will have cut its losses and moved on from the video game hardware business, if they don't go bankrupt by then, that is, >.>.

Sony sure knows how to doom their own consoles into oblivion better than no one.

Above: still the best game of the year.
