Forums - Nintendo - Do you think the Wii will ever hit $80?

^^^^ I'm bored and wanted to start another thread since I haven't made one in a while.

Anyway, the GameCube reached this price point once, or at least in a Christmas deal, but I'm pretty sure it also became an offical price as well in its final years. One could argue the Wii won't need to have a price cut that low because by the time it reaches 100$ it might be on its 7th year if Nintendo keeps on shipping it to retailers (this is the start of Nintendo's fifth year btw since the Wii launched in November 2006). It probably won't go more than 7 years because third parties and Nintendo won't be giving any more siginficant or fun software by that time. But maybe a 80$ pricetag could extend it's life one more year? The Wii 8 years could possibly still make at least minimal profit.

So what do you guys think? Will the Wii ever get a price point of 80$ like the GameCube?

If it keeps selling like hot cakes, there would be no reason to lower the price down to 80 dollars.  I say 100 is the lowest it goes.

I have no doubt that around 2015-16 the Wii will drop to around 99.99$ But I don't think I have ever seen Nintendo drop the suggested retail price of any home console lower than 99.99$. However this is Nintendo biggest platform of all time and if they can manufacture it for cheaper then 40$ then I could see such a price. If not I think if it ever reached the 80$ area is if Black Friday or boxing day sales occur in 2016.

But no I don't think Nintendo will ever lower the suggested retail price below 99$ When they are at that point they will likely stop shipping and it'll be the end for the Wii.

yeah.. probably in 2015.. i mean at the moment why would they? i sure the hell wouldn't if the console is still selling lol

I think it will be at $110 or so when the next Nintendo home console is released; and it might drop to $80 sometime in the future after its manufacturing has long ceased.
